I actually hoped and thought he might lengthen the chase into Saturday so more folks could be there for him. When he picked up the three victories Thursday to go to 9,999 though, I realized the chance of not getting #10,000 on today's card was pretty remote.

Say what you what about Russell Baze and the level of his competition for many of those 10,000 victories. Hard to argue with his consistency and perseverance.

All I know is I have been watching and enjoying horse racing since I was a pre-schooler at Ascot Park in the suburbs of Cleveland-Akron, Ohio. A place that last held races in 1966.

A long time.

After almost 45 years of watching thoroughbred racing, I have REALLY enjoyed my good fortune of living in the California Bay Area the past seven years and following the accomplishments of Russell Baze.
