the thread title is completely tasteless.

bernardini made that look so easy, very effortless. a very nice horse. and you can certainly appreciate one horse, and congratulate him, without having to knock another horse. esp when that horse is fighting every day to stay alive.

Isn't that backwards? All I see on message boards are Barbaro fans who are so upset about their horse (and rightfully so, obviously) that they disparage Bernardini EVERY chance they get.

I am beyond thrilled about Bernardini, but I respect Barbaro a great deal -as a racehorse, but more as a fighter. Albetrani was hoping that his colt would step out of the shadow of Barbaro; I don't think this will ever happen with most fans, because they won't let it happen. Oh well - I just hope he keeps winning

That's not so. Bernadini will be looked upon as a great horse if he keeps his form. Barbaro fans are not comparing the two.

well, to be fair, I admit that I'm referring to a few bad apples in a generally very good bunch. I hoped that I wouldn't have to be posting about this kind of thing after the race because it's just too aggravating. By the way, I don't mean to come down hard on Barbaro fans, who obviously adore their horse.......I just wish that their standards for Bernardini (and keep in mind that I am not calling him "the greatest" anything yet) weren't so high. He can't win in a fight against the memory of Barbaro, not when Barbaro is still fighting to stay alive.

I already proclaimed Bernardini HOY, but you can't make stupid threads and name them Barbaro Who? It just lacks class.

I am a huge Barbaro fan and I said well before today's race he is going to be a great one.

Bernardini will become a bigger star than Barbaro in the racing public, but Barbaro has crossed into the mainstream. Bernardini can never do that even if he win HOY. The KD is the race that attracts the attention of the public and Barbaro's story run on things like Network New and morning shows.

If Barbaro survives, his feat of just surviving, will be right up there with the Triple Crown winners. If he survives and contributes to the breed in the shed, well then he goes down as one of the elite of the elite.

i don't think bernardini will be a bigger star. if they decided to retire him after his 3 yo season, than i look for him to make two starts. the travers, and the bcc. that doesn't make you a household name. unless of course he wins the bcc, than he might be one--but it won't matter at that point, no one will see him again.

Maybe, but there isn't an older horse out there that has been as impressive as him. Not one.

I didn't read the whole thread so I am probably just repeating what others have said but.....GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! The horse ran a very good race today and I congratulate his connections for doing a fine job with him. Personally I think Barbaro was a better horse, but that isn't even the point.
Why start a thread which is meant to celebrate Bernardini by slighting Barbaro?

really? lava mans wins, no losses all year,(and he's run how many more times than bernardini?) and none have been as impressive?
flower alley looking like he's taking a stroll in the park against older in his first start in six months not as impressive?

hell, barbaro winning the derby in hand was more impressive...of course he isn't older...

you're all or nothing, aren't you??
