Race 5 replay http://play.www.atr.servecast.net/pp..._01_24_05_1720

Asiatic Boy just won race 6, but he had to work fairly hard. Diabolical was very disappointing.

He had a wall of horses in front of him at one point. With a better trip, he would have won very easily

Here is the replay of Asiatic Boy winning the sixth race

I don't believe that was much of an exucse to be honest. After that he was soon on the front end and travelling very well. Okay, the start wasn't great, but I don't think it cost him any placings at all.

He certainly didn't seem to lose any ground at the start. When I first saw it, I thought he had but after watching again, it didn't seem to make any difference.

I thought he'd be good enough to win today at this distance. I at least expected him to finish second. Apart from him and Asiatic Boy, it wasn't a great race. Salaam Dubai ran a huge race in the Golden Shaheen last year, but looking at the rest of his form, that run looks like it could have been a bit of a fluke.

Oh well. Maybe next time.

EDIT: Just watched it again. It does look bad when he comes out of the gates, but if you look through the race, he was in a much better position than the winner throughout. Maybe he wasn't quite fit enough today.

He should have beaten that group at 70% fitness. That break cost him the race, but I doubt he will be the same horse that was over here running last spring.

There was nothing in there besides Asiatic Boy, and he doesnt want to sprint. He just beat those horses on class. I doubt very seriously he could have sprinted with Diabolical if they broke on even terms.

Diabolical broke better than Asiatic Boy. You may find that hard to believe after going on his nose, but watch the race again. Until about half a furlong out, Diabolical was always in front of Asiatic Boy.

The start didn't cost him at all.

If Asiatic Boy had got a better trip, he would have been a very easy winner.

I don't know quite how Diabolical managed to do it, but he didn't seem to lose any ground at the start at all.

I guess we just disagree on whether or not the stumble cost him placings.

Asiatic Boy didnt figure to come out on top of that field regardless, so a slower break doesnt hamper him nearly as much as a front runner like Diabolical

Asiatic Boy showed what a class act he was today. Onwards and upwards from here. And GO TO AMERICA after Dubai. you can win on turf and dirt and polytrack there. At least the turf will be firm..

I wonder where he will actually be trained after Dubai?

It's disappointing, you would have thought they would have let the current owners keep ownership until the end of the carnival.

Because it would have been a nice gesture to the previous owners. People with horses like Happy Boy cannot afford to turn down these huge sums of money that was no doubt waved in front of their faces.

The trainer will be very disappointed because he was seriously looking forward to running him again.

Will they run him in the World Cup do you think?

A nice gesture???

Ummm, I don't think anyone put a gun to their (the owners) heads.

They got an offer and they agreed.

Yeah I still think he'll run. Can't see any reason why not...

Well, many of these deals that are completed of horses with foreign owners or with prime targets are often allowed to run the horse in their name until after that race, or in this case I thought they would at least let the previous owners let him race for them until the end of the carnival.

Oh, there is no doubt they probably felt under some pressure to sell. I know I would have done in that situation when basically the ruling family of the country you are in have said they want to buy your horse.

I just hope they haven't bought him to eliminate the competition for Literato (if he's still pointed towards the world cup). In a way, I'd hope they run Happy Boy and point Literato somewhere else.

Fmc123412.....

L'Amico Steve is possible for the 3rd on Thursday.

Others (possible / Day 3) include Jonquil, Jalil, Dijeerr, Pinson.

Will post the final fields when they're up.

Linngari to the G2 2 Al Fahidi Fort (again).

On Gun Salute.....

American recruit pleases in carnival gallop

Doug Watson reports new recruit Gun Salute in fine shape and was pleased with his new charge who worked over five furlongs on the Nad Al Sheba dirt track this morning.

Winner of the Group 1 Secretariat Stakes in 2005, the six-year-old entire son of Military arrived in Dubai on 13th January having been kept fit at the Keeneland Training Centre prior to his departure. Having arrived in good shape, this morning’s five-furlong gallop under Mick Kinane, was his second serious piece of work since his arrival and Watson was delighted:

“He has covered that in exactly a minute and we are very pleased. Mick (Kinane) certainly likes the horse and he is an exciting addition to our Carnival team. The Group 1 Dubai Duty Free over 1777m on turf is his target but obviously he won't run in the Al Rashidiya this week. However, there is a handicap over the same course and distance next Friday and we are targeting that.”

The horse, who will remain based in the quarantine centre and return to the States after World Cup night, will work on the turf next Monday prior to his UAE debut.

great news!! let's see his performance!...he has talent...but, historically, brazilian turf horses don't have the same good results as dirt specialists....

by the way...it's a shame what Dono da Raia's owners are doing with the career of this horse....i'm extremely sad about that...
