I hope they do get it right, but count me as sceptical. Just how exhaustive could the research be? What did it take, 2 weeks? How much research was involved with the current installation? something less than exhaustive I'm guessing.

Especially by one guy. I was the king of all nighters in college (once pulled a 60 hour binge, studying/gambling/drinking, with no sleep) but this is a old guy from Austrailia, doubt he has the fortitude to do that now

Engineers will get the surface right eventually. As in all things new, the start up has the most problems. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. These new surfaces, I'm convinced, will elvolve into better surfaces with time.

Work had actually started much earlier at Pro-Ride when there were indications of draining issues last year after installation.

From the new Aussie draining technique, which has been likened to M and M's, to the softball size rock removal this morning, to the lack of draining, its obvious Santa Anita has made a step forward in racing surfaces. All involved should be commended

I so hope this works. I was an impressionable child of 10 when my father and grandparents took me here for my first visit to racing. My father was a lousy handicapper but someone at his work had given him a tip and so we went. I wanted to go to Knotts Berry Farm instead.
Should have.
