Read what Speilman says if you cannot follow the bouncing ball.

"But early that Saturday, on ESPN and ESPNEWS and later ESPN.com, the word was out: "Sources have told ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Michigan will announce early next week it has reached an agreement with LSU coach Les Miles to be its next head football coach." As Herbstreit's later remarks would make clear, that information came not from "sources," but from a single, anonymous, uncorroborated source." sourceS?? that's plural. herbstreit made it sound as tho more than one person gave him this info, which later turned out to be untrue. so what else did he concoct?
les miles came out this evening and said AGAIN, he is NOT in the running for the job. this is ridiculous.
i hope michigan hurries up and finds someone, as this is becoming tedious.

"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job," Miles said. "I was only assisting them in their search for a coach. I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach. I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."--from earlier this evening.

I and millions of other people heard him say it was from someone directly involved in the contract negotiations.

If you want to hang him on an " 's "...go right ahead.

If you truly have been around in the real world long enough...for you to keep throwing up all the plausible denials from Miles and all the lock tight commitments and can't see what's going on you're a lot more naive than I would have thought ,Dannie.

Speilman made it very clear.

Very,very clear.

If you believe the top people at Michigan are still talking to their number one candidate after he rejected their approaches -----to talk to him about search advice?........................................... .do I have to say it?

Let me put it this way...if Miles was so outraged about being outted in the first place.....why in the world does he risk even more distraction about this controversial issue by continuing to talk to the TOP guys at Michigan?

What sense does this make?

i don't know, and at this point, i guess i don't care. nothing any one, including the coach, and those at michigan, and the ad at lsu can convince anyone that miles is staying, so why am i even bothering?

we'll see in less than a month. til then....i'm out on this.

i dont care what herbstreit said--even the espn ombudsman blasts him in her article. if you want to go ahead and continue to believe something his fellow employee doesn't and that he finally backtracked on a day later, go for it.

miles says he'll be here, if he's just covering up, and even signed an extension just to keep this charade going, and ends up leaving, then i wouldn't have wanted him here anyway.
but in the meantime, i have no reason to disbelieve him. he said he's staying, he signed the extension. if he did all that to keep the team from being distracted, it's not working.
but boy, it sure helps espns ratings, doesn't it?

Miles does more for them than they could ever do by continuing to talk to the top people at Michigan.

Good night ,Dannie....take some fish oil will ya?

In order to try to retain his squeaky clean rep. in the college FB world, he had to backtrack a day later because of the moronic "news conference" that Miles held that made him look like the bad guy.

I don't think so, I'm not watching ESPN any more or less than before. It just gives them SC filler when all that is going on right now are the endless NBA and NHL regular seasons.

Moronic "news conference" is a good way to put it.

Coaches consdering jumping ship will hold these things when caught sneaking around. They will deny they may be leaving and vent about the press for several minutes .... who made them sneak around .Then they will say" no questions" and leave.

The "no questions" is always a hint.

Miles and TOP Michigan officials( President and AD...that's all.) are scheduled to talk this morning. Subjects are limited to the weather and their baseball card collections as per Miles' contract.

saban was in louisiana recruiting the other day, they were all over that happening as well. it's amazing.

i wonder tho, if miles is really leaving, how long petrino would wait before calling lsu. he'd bolt arkansas for a better sec opportunity faster than you can say 'contract negotiation'.

I think if you really look at this......LSU made it public that Michigan asked for ( and received) permission to talk to Miles about the Michigan job. That'd be the only job mentioned in his LSU contract finding it necessary for Miles to give LSU 1.25 mill. should he jump to Michigan. This is because Michigan is Miles' number one desire as he is Michigans'. This is no news.

So stay with me on this..............is it very hard to connect a line from this sequence of fact and lead it to contract negotiations?

Do you really think Herbstreit just made his report up out of chocolate pudding??

The guy with the million plus dollar sports analyst/game commentater job?

Don't forget his exclusive self-tanner contract.

what has it cost herbstreit to make the report? nothing.
he and others do it all the time. where is the punishment if they're wrong? nowhere. oh, well a source said-he didn't confirm it, he was too anxious to get it out there before the game....so they run with it. there's no harm, no foul if they're wrong, so why not hope to be right?

mark may announced nutt resigned as a done deal, as tho nutt was already packed and gone, weeks before it actually happened. who went after him for making a report that at the time was incorrect? no one. it was reported grobe was going to arkansas, didn't happen. it's not life or death, so no one really feels they're laying their neck on the line to run with a possible story.

the monday after herbstreit's report mike tirico opened his radio show by backing herbstreit. tirico went on to say they he knew herbstreit's source and it was trusted. tirico went on, that he had recieved a call from one of his sources, that miles was leaving, so he stood behind herbstreit.
