They come out and ask who the big Colt is that I am riding, and I correct them and tell them she is a filly and is only 3 years old. All of them are very impressed. Many of them look forward to seeing her, they come out and pet her ask when she will be running or at least on the track so they can watch. So no need to worry she has a fan club here too.

What she goes off at odds-wise really shouldn't matter. matter of fact, i would rather not get a price because that means she is in a good spot

What I am saying is that the spot has nothing to do with it. If she is in a tough spot and should go off 20-1 she goes off 9/5 because the stable money is silly. Having more people excited about her is great unless you are betting her.

I believe what Scav is saying, is as the owner you should be happy the horse is in the right spot and wins, not what you make of your wager. The purse and the value of the horse is more important than your one race wager.

Thanks to Chuck and Cherie, Jackie and Ryan for their care of Sumwon and now KNS. It really shows almost immediately how these filllies respond and the way they look.... Sumwon looks almost bigger than she did in Saratoga.

Horsemanship matters. Shoeing, nutrition, TLC (yes, important), consistency, attention to detail, training with a purpose to a purpose ... a lost art in this day of "want it now" and need to pay the bills?

I really think Steve is right - Sumwon got to Chuck's barn for a reason, and I'm very, very happy Kickin N Screamin is there, too.

While not really a student of the equine sciences, I have had my moments at the track over the years where I was able to fool a novice race goer or two with an interesting factoid or a lesser known nugget of information. As a little kid, I thought I was impressing the hell out of the adults at the track by being one of the few people there that could identify the gender of the horses. Little did I know that most people had been let in on this 'secret' well before they ever got to a race track. It is surprising then to read today that as Sumwon parades around the grounds at Churchill on her morning jaunts, so many of the people on the backstretch have to be corected and told that the big COLT is, in fact, a big Filly.

Either many of the bleary-eyed backstretch workers were up way too late the previous evening cramming for their college physics exams OR many of the backstretch workers couldn't spell C-A-T if you spotted them the C. (If memory serves correctly, I believe GPK had a similar problem at Saratoga this past summer. Kev was able to inspect exactly half of the animals there 'up close and personal' by walking under them without ever brushing his head against their underbelly. When he attempted to do the same with the male horses he repeatedly got smacked in the face by the dangling apparatuses found under these animals. I didn't know if he kept doing it because he was 'special', because he was from North Carolina and didn't know better or because he just truly enjoyed it.) As if the racing industry doesn't have enough to worry about, consider this. As long as the backstretch workers continue to have problems identifying the sex of the horses they are caring for, headhunters will continue to raid America's racetracks as they prove to be fertile ground for recruiting the future generation of America's carnival workers.

Hey guys! Sumwon and Jazzy both say hello this morning! Jazzy is really becoming one of the barn favorites...she is so sweet and willing, and it's exciting to get to see her changing slowly but surely into a happy racehorse. Cherie is doing a fabulous job with her...you can see a big difference on the track! Whereas before, she was nervous and unwilling to stride out, now she strides out confidently with her neck stretched down the way it's supposed to be. She's gaining muscle and starting to look much better. And Sumwon, as always, looks marvelous and Cherie is right, she is gaining quite a fan club on the backside at Churchill as well!
