I still don't get why you want him retired. I am not a huge fan of the horse (although I don't dislike him either) but it seems like you like him a lot. He looked pretty good today, so why not take a shot at Lava Man in the PC and then point to the BCC?
I would not currently give him much of a chance to win those races, but hell I gave him NO chance to win the Derby and I didn't think he would win today, so wtf do I know?

They are always gunna make fun of this horse.I would just like for his last race to be a Graded Stakes Win. If he runs 4th or 5th in a race, and is retired, then you just give the savages more tool to cut with.

It's wonderful to see Giacomo get a "1" next to his name again ... but ...

... the narrowness of his victory and the quality ... or lack thereof ... of his competition ... don't offer much hope for the future.

He'll be OK against G3 horses ... like the ones he faced today ... but don't get too excited about his chances against real G1/G2 competition.

Anyhow ... congratulations Giacomo ... and in case you forgot ... that little enclosure they took you to after the race .... is called the Winner's Circle.

That is an interesting way to "congratulate" a horse.

I was wrong, I never thought this one would win another race...

Chill out Scuds, stop worrying about what people think about Giacomo and worry about why does it seem like the Dodgers and Cardinals play every day and why can't the Dodgers beat them, the Reds need to make up some ground and the Dodgers aren't helping things...

I agree. Seems like almost everytime a horse wins a race one of a few people jumps on and points out that the competition was light and that they arent a true Grade 1 horse. Then, the second a popular horse loses they jump on him proclaiming that he is a fraud and no good. I dont get it.

I don't know about anyone else on this thread ... but ... the first sentence of my first post read ...

"It's wonderful to see Giacomo get a '1' next to his name again" ...

... and ... though you couldn't see it ... I had a smile on my face when I typed it!

He had an ideal pace set up. Preachinathebar did all the work and really deserved to win. The good news? Giacomo will be vastly overbet next time out.

Well,at 2, the horse finished a length off of that year's 2 year old Eclipse winner(in a Grade 1 race.)At 3,he won the biggest race in America for 3 year olds(and beat the future 3 year old Eclipse Winner while doing it.)Last time I looked, that's a Grade 1 race.Today,he takes a Grade 2 race at a distance that is shorter than ideal for him. So,this is a horse who has won a Grade 1,and a Grade 2.If you choose to think he can't win at the level he has already won at,then you choose to be stupid. You think they just give out 2.2 million bucks to an average horse? A grade 3 horse?

I was impressed with Bar's race quite a bit

but good to see "Lefty" bring home Big G
one more time
heh, Smitty has had just as many of these "haters"
on his back this year
Scuds leave Ziggy alone you swine

Glad you found your dictionary, Scuds. Maybe you can look up "adolescent", too.

You declared "thread done", and then get goaded into continuing with more silly stuff. Too bad.

Won't you take me down to negativetown?
I guess some people just thrive on bashing horses. I realize it wasn't a grade one race but wasn't it just nice to see a horse who won the Derby and was being ridiculed win a race in such a game fashion?
Why can't people ever just celebrate a nice performance or story? Why does it always lead to "well he or she sure won't win next time or sure can't beat so and so"? Hes sure never been my favorite horse and I sure didn't like him to win on Saturday, but after he hit the line in front I told the person with me "I can't believe he just won of that layoff, I guess hes gamer than I gave him credit for". I think thats a pretty appropiate way to think.

Just looking at the present, Scuds ... not trying to write a history book.

Like Funny Cide ... and many others in the past ... Giacomo was once good enough to win a G1 race ... but ...

... he no longer is.

I don't understand why you should take Giacomo's lessened abilities as a personal insult ... or why that's a reason for you to call someone else names.

You write stupid stuff(he just won a grade 2,but you say he will struggle in grade 2 races,)and then don't want to be called stupid.I don't think he showed lessened abilities yesterday. He may not have broke the track record, but LESSENED ABILITIES?Another stupid comment. She attacks a horse like a btch, and then doesn't want somebody to point out that she acts this way. Go disrespect a horse who isn't a Derby Winner.Every trainer would love to have trained the winner of the Derby. This guy pulls it off.Has the horse at his best on Derby day,and has to read people bash his Derby Winner for 14 months.I think it is pathetic that this guy(and the Moss Family) have had to put up with you savages.

Please re-read my post ...

I didn't say Giacomo will struggle in G2 races ... I said he isn't capable of beating true G1/G2 quality opposition.

Not every G2 race attracts a G2 field ... as the San Diego Handicap clearly demonstrated. But sometimes an overnight allowance race will draw a G1 field.

To knowledgable observers of thoroughbred racing ... it's the quality of the actual opposition a horse defeats that's important ... not the grading a stakes race got based on the horses which ran in it in past years.

I hope you can see the distinction ... and appreciate it.
