It's even more ridiculous: $200K! At least there were no major bridge-jumpers... the Show Pool was just under $16K, as opposed to the win pool of $141K.

The best scenario for THE GREEN MONKEY would be a flat mile, at The Meadowlands and with John Campbell on the bike.

What would you do with The Green Monkey, Dahoss? Pull the plug now? Feign an injury, supposedly occurring during the race?

Give him one last shot, on a different surface?

A side note to this race, Joppa Flats is one of the fastest horses ever to be a life-long maiden. Just looking at his thorograph sheet, he has improved tremendously this year, working his way down to a consistent "4", which, while not a stakes-winning number, would certainly make him a quality allowance horse. Yet, the sonofagun REFUSES to win! Six 2nd place finishes in a row. I guess he's still making money for his connections, but I'd like to see what he might do with new connections.

Sam Bowie was a basketball player at UK back in the days when I was a grad student there, saw him in the Student Center frequently. 7' tall and 18" wide - very, very thin. Signed a pro contract for big bucks but never could play much because his long, thin leg bones kept cracking under the strain. Spent most of his pro career recovering from injuries.
