Scratches are quite irritating, and one of my big issues with the game. Horsemen never seem to want to face a big field anymore. Everything has to be perfect or too many of them scratch - frustrating from a bettor and fan perspective.
The BC is largely successful not only because of its championship status, but that every field is large, well-contested and deep.
