Yes -- loose speed is just so horrible at Monmouth -- and one of the leading BC Classic contenders in Street Sense really did overwhelm the mighty Grasshoper (a son of Dixie Union with very limited route foundation going 10 furlongs for the first time)

How did Hystericalady look at Monmouth today by the way?

How can you not love that effort? Come on, you all thought he was a beat horse!

I did. After those fractions I was sure he was cooked when he got headed. The horse has already shown this before. This was just visually impressive. He did not give up in the Derby either, but Street Sense seems to appreciate close races.

If you watch the replay, you will see the only reason the race was so close was because Hard spun raced on the wrong lead the whole way down the stretch..nice ride by Mario not to panic and get him to change leads..when he did it was over.

Considering I had her (and 4 others) to complete the pick 5 at Monmouth today, I was rooting for a longer price obviously, but the pace was very soft for a filly of her quality. When they let her go :48 to the half the field had no chance. Still, a nice filly who might be the 3rd choice in the Distaff at this point behind R2R and Nashoba's Key.

I don't like Street Sense in the BC either. . . And I'm not convinced he'd get the loose lead that you predict. There will be all this talk before the race (if he goes) about how Hard Spun will get easy fractions yada yada and some jock or owner will decide to run with him early. Right now I love AGS in the BC if Pletcher can get him properly prepped. . .
