We had discussed it a bit here.....

http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16071

... but you're right... needs its own thread.

Scary stuff.

More updates than i can post here.....

http://www.virtualformguide.com/news.shtml

Meanwhile in Japan racing is scheduled for the weekend.

The only news from HK (all along) has been that it's MUCH worse than the JRA has said. No surprises there.....

Currently speaking to a friend on Oz about it........ dreadful news. The general horse population have said to have got it, including many police horses who have been stabled with 11 infected horses.

From what i'm hearing it will be longer than 72 hours that racing is cancelled. It seems to be spreading quickly.

It could be deadly to foals.

It's also hit the racing economy hard. They estimate the loss at one Sydney meeting to be $10million.

I've heard speculation that there may not be racing in New South Wales for as long as a month.

I really hope that's not the case.

But don't you think that would be best in the long run? These people that are wanting racing back in 72 hours don't care about the virus, they are only thinking about the money they will not get.

These things can be in the air for weeks and weeks. If they start racing TOO soon it will more than likely get even worse than it is now.

Damage limitation is the word.

To say at mo we all got texts from our governing bodies saying until further notice all horses are to be in lock down NSW,QLD,WA,Vic.
All shuttle stallions are stuck in lock down with unfortunately some big names suspected of being infected ecosta delago being one !!!
names in qaureenteen at mo choisir, danehil dancer, ecosta etc......
with breeding season only 1 week away this could screw us for awhile
What pisses me off just saw Sydney Transport still moving horses so really no one is going to enforce these restrictions so as its allready spread i reckon theres no chance for here for at least a month

The suspension on racing has been extended to at least 5 days now.

Apparently NSW racing officials are considering staging 'local' meetings at Randwick and maybe Warwick Farm open exclusively to horses trained at the track.
