I don't remember him and I have a pretty good memory No one is going to claim a horse off a long layoff, why not make some money on the way back up, if up is the direction he is going? Maybe he doesn't have enough saved up for retirement, what else is he supposed to do? He's probably burned through all his purse winnings already...he's looking at what, at least $300 a month for retirement?

i cant think of a single horse that has remained sound after being trained by gary mandella.

especially back then, in those first days of his career.
