Saratoga is perfect just the way it is.

There is a difference in the dress code between the grandstand and the clubhouse. In the grandstand or lawn anything goes..you could go shirtless if you want. In the clubhouse, men must have sleeves on their shirts. No muscle shirts or anything like that. And of course in the box seats, jackets for men are required.

I guess people will find anything to complain about.

I must say, when i went to Santa Anita i was almost disgusted by the dresscode around the race track. shorts, jeans (some ripped jeans), t-shirts with nasty slogans on them.

Was i even at a racetrack? more like a rave with a couple of horses there for fun.

People dressing like that wouldn't even be let in tracks in this country. If you want to get into 'members' (which is like club for you guys) you HAVE to wear a collared shirt and trousers (no jeans), and at some of the bigger race days a suit is a must for members.

You wouldn't see me in anything less than a suit at Cheltenham for the festival, Newmarket for the guineas and July meeting etc etc.

It adds character to the whole event.
I apologize on my post that the British may well be the ugliest people on the earth. A survey of 59,000 men shows my bad error. My apologies to the women of Afghanistan.... Is it safe to assume I'm off your holiday card list?

I am a mush if I go into the paddock.

The horses I have been involved in have never won a race after I was in the paddock, therefore, I don't go in the paddock anymore.

Okay, while it's nice to think that we are back in the 1930's and everyone gets all gussied up to go to the track, this is the 21st century. If you need to feel as though you are dressing up to go to the Whitney Ball, the Turf Terrace is a wonderful place to be. Food isn't that good, but people wear nice clothes. I think the problem with the paddock isn't so much that people don't get dressed up enough, but the people that they let in who shouldn't be in there. Besides, trainers like Baffert and Frankel are wearing a jacket and jeans half of the time anyway. Unless something special is going on.

The clubhouse is nothing more than an extension of the grandstand these days, except it is closer to the finish line and they can charge you more. To not allow people to wear nice Bermuda shorts (a dress code somewhat similar to a golf course) is ludicrous. Remember, it is a VACATION spot.

Actually even Baffert pressed his khakis for the paddock yesterday.

This is a very revealing thread.
Too bad I did not get to read it earlier.

In the south it tends to get a might WARM.
Shorts are most comfy.
I am however fascinated with those big Top Hats the Arab Royalty
wear to mimick the British; look useful for storage.

Think I could snag a freebie on a windy day...
At Royal Apricot.
