How sad.
Run in peace, sweet girl. From TT..... Two-time Sunshine Millions winner Joint Effort euthanized by Jeff Lowe Joint Effort, a multiple graded stakes winner who also scored in two Sunshine Millions races, was euthanized on July 29 after fracturing her pelvis while training at Churchill Downs. Bred and raced by Donald Dizney, the four-year-old Runaway Groom filly out of C. C. Princess, by Conquistador Cielo, had not raced since a five-length win in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes on January 27 at Santa Anita Park. Joint Effort also won the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Ocala Stud Oaks at Gulfstream Park in 2006. “She was a good filly and it was just kind of a freak thing,” said Roger Brand, general manager at Dizney’s Double Diamond Farm in Ocala. “We had laid her off for a little chip surgery, and she came back and was doing great. So it was a real blow to us.” Trained by Dale Romans, Joint Effort also won the Dogwood Breeders’ Cup (G3) and La Troienne (G3) Stakes at Churchill in 2006. She finished second in three other graded stakes. Bred in Florida, Joint Effort won six of 18 career starts and earned $791,465. |

Ladies Din.....
Rest in peace. From DRF..... Ladies Din dies while show jumping Ladies Din, a winner of 12 of 37 starts and $1,966,754, died earlier this summer of a suspected heart attack, his co-owner Bernie Schiappa and trainer Julio Canani said on Wednesday. The incident occurred when Ladies Din, 12, was show jumping, they said. Ladies Din retired in 2003. He won such major races as the 1998 Del Mar Derby, 2000 Eddie Read Handicap and 2002 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile. Owned by Schiappa and Terry Lanni, Ladies Din was one of the finest turf milers of the late 1990s and early 2000s. In his final start, Ladies Din finished sixth in the 2003 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile at Hollywood Park. Even though Ladies Din had not raced in several years, Schiappa had kept up on the gelding's life after his racetrack retirement. "It's very sad and very emotional," he said. "To me, he was part of the family." |
