Stars return to shine AUSTRALIA – A number of the spring racing stars will be out to play on Saturday. Topping the bill will be the return of Haradasun in the Gr 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield. The Gr 1 Doncaster Handicap winner will be ridden for the first time by Damien Oliver who has landed the plum mount at Nash Rawiller’s expense. Haradasun: Set to clash with Apache Cat and Maybe Better in the Gr 3 Bletchingly Stakes (©Martin King Sportpix)The Tony Vasil-trained colt became Australasia’s most valuable stud prospect after Coolmore purchased a 50 percent interest in him. Melbourne Cup hopeful Maybe Better and Gr 1 Australian Guineas winner Apache Cat will be among Haradasun’s rivals. Dual Gr 3 winner Minson will make his reappearance for new trainer David Hayes in the Bletchingly or the Aquanita Handicap. Permaiscuous, Beauty School and Purde will all return to action for Hayes as well. The Caulfield programme will also see the Lee Freedman-trained Royal Asscher, a Listed juvenile winner, return. GAI Waterhouse's dual Epsom Handicap winner Desert War has been ruled out for the spring after tests revealed a strain in his near foreleg. Being set for the Cox Plate, Desert War finished last in a trial on Tuesday and was sore yesterday. "He's out for the spring but he will be back for the autumn," Waterhouse stable representative Marette Farrell said. "It's not major, it's just a timing thing." |
