If it is indeed legit, then good for him. Better to be lucky than good.

Impossible. Period. Either a phone number or dumb luck....or, worse, corruption. NO ONE handicapped the Del Mar card and singled a 65-1 and 11-1. No one is THAT good just by reading the racing form.

Did you even read the article? He basically admits it was dumb luck.

Byers said he wagered $44 into the pick six Thursday. Byers cashed the ticket Thursday evening at Viejas, and admitted he was lucky. He originally wanted to single race-3 favorite Hit It Skip (No. 8) in the first leg, but when that one scratched, he said he was flustered and went instead with No. 7 - the $133.80 winner.

"I was in a hurry," Byers said. "I go by jockeys and trainers."

Thanks to Volponi. This should be investigated.

bc scandal: phone account. no paper trail.

del mar: a physical ticket purchased at a casino. the ticket has a bar code showing not just the bet but the date/time and terminal where it was purchased.

this has more in common with the folks that hit the huge hollypark carryover 2x on cheap tickets than the bc scandal.

Nothing irritates a horse player more than a guy who hits a big number by dumb luck. After all don't we all spend a great deal of time studying PPs, reading books and horse racing boards. Along comes a guy without much of a clue and walks out with $100K. Makes ya feel like you are just wasting your time. Not a good feeling. Would you rather be lucky or good?
