yes that's true but all i'm saying is that this year I think the cycle was particularly down early. more than usual. I mean it looked bleak.

then at the end of this year it could have yet another complexion, with perhaps new stars that are having there praises sung.

all i can say for this year is thank god for the three year olds.

2005 and last year was pretty bad. Let's be honest here, in 2005, FLOWER ALLEY was much the best 3YO the second half of the season... that ain't sayin' much. Last year, outside of Bernardini and maybe Bluegrass Cat, you had a bunch of plugs that really were G3 types masquerading in G1's.

This group is CLEARLY better than the last two.

Are you throwing Barbaro into that group of Plugs? I think he was much more then a G3 type...I am just thinking you overlooked him...

i disagree. in the weeks leading up to the derby, last years crop and the potential field was spoken of as one of the deepest in years. nothing happened in the months after to make me change my mind. it took invasor to keep a three year old from winning the classic.

Yes, Bernardini was definitely a quality animal but who was behind him? Nothing.

No, of course not. I'm speaking from the midpoint of the 3YO season (the Dwyer) on.

AGS still has yet to win beyond 8.5f or am I mistaken here?? He's proven he can alternate wins with Nobiz which Scat Daddy did as well. He ran a nice one turn race on a fast Belmont track. I'm far from sold on him. He's a good horse.

Don't forget we recently came off three bad years of Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome, biggest impact was the foal crop of 2001. Anybody know where to look up numbers for foals born in the last seven years?

I think you are spot-on here. This horse wasn't good enough to handle Scat Daddy (we know how good he is), and each and every start comes with an excuse. This time it's the fact he was off the pace. I think he's exposed. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll be wrong with my money each and every time.

yeah, he exposes the same performance in every race. He's a big onepaced horse who is going to run a mid nineties beyer every time. As the rest of the crop develops and moves forward he is being left behind.
