I was shouting Viva La France when he got the heater in the feature. Had him singled and thought for sure he didn't get there. Gotta hand it to the guy, he put on a clinic out there today.

Wow, comparing Jara to Lep - that's not even close. And also saying anybody can win 6 with a great agent - get serious. People need to start giving Julien his props. The kid is flat sick and one of the best in the country.

I think he would have to be in the Top 20 right now, great agent or not...

Okay, lets look at a theoretical situation. If Biancone never took him under his wing and gave him all kinds of good mounts, and he just had an average agent, this conversation most likely would not be taking place right now.

But those things only happened because people saw the ability the guy had. I don't think Biancone or a top agent would waste their time with an average jockey.

And also, regardless of the ability of the agent, the trainers of the horses have to have been sufficiently impressed by the way he rides to agree to have him on their runners. I doubt they all decide simply on the basis of the number of wins he's had.

Agreed. But If say,Bejarano rode all the horses Leparoux rode at CD today,it would have been Rafael with the six wins.

to compare JuLep to Jara is like comparing Elizabeth Hurley to Rosanne Barr.

I think Julien has been consistently good, Jara on the other hand has won some BIG, BIG races. Giving them both the benefit of the doubt, youth is definately on their side.

Can't say. I've never seen either of them ride.

True, but McLaughlin took Jara in and Fernando has squandered the goodwill. All good young jocks need to find a start with a reputable barn that gives them mounts. Fact is that Jara does well with very good horses but day in day out, he's average at best.

At best this is just more proof that anyone can win on a good, or the best, horse, and at worst it's very debatable. Jara gave Invasor a poor ride in the Whitney and a questionable ride in the Donn and only because he was on the best horse did he still win. The simple fact is riders aren't that important, and nobody proved this more clearly recently that Jara, especially with Invasor.

He will win, like Alan Garcia, when he has very live mounts, but he will do more to hurt a horse's chances than he ever will to help them. And, from what I hear, he could also learn to be a lot more generous to the barn help should he ever get lucky enough to win a big race in the future.
