He was an utter failure in the NBA.
I'm sure he makes more money than most NBA coaches with zero pressure and he hasn't been fired in 25 years. Please curse me in this manner.

I would think there isn't many things better in life than making tons of money, while allowed to be an annoying hack, with zero pressure.

In the case of both Dicky V and the gentleman in my avatar.

BASEBALL-MORGAN is a biased little Bay Area Elf,but Walton(NBA) is the one I would pay to retire.

Yeah but Miller toning it down doesn't even get him close to the bottom of the list....I remember watching Summerall and Venturi, they were the best.....Curtis Strange was really good too..

College Football is Herbstreit no doubt imo

College Basketball - does it get any better than Dicky V????

Pro Basketball announcers suck because Pro Basketball sucks.....

Pro Hockey - I have no idea.....Dorothy Hamill maybe.....

john madden knows his football, that's for sure--but ever since i heard the comedian 'do' madden, and the bit about him eating his sentences before he could finish them...well, i'll never hear madden the same way now. as for theismann, that line about geniuses and norman einstein, that's an all-timer there! that and his 'you have to score to put points on the board' line...whata guy!

i thought the best sports guy was jim mckay. always enjoyed his work.

todays analysts...ehh. dime a dozen. i think aikman could be good, but can't stand joe buck, and wish they didn't put them together in the booth.

No offense,Cardus! I wouldn't know but a few of the hockey personalities anyway...but mostly I'm glad that Mike Emrick is an exceptional person. I do like hockey way better than soccer though!

Hey...I get misty when I watch MOI! It is a good sport, but it has been mismanged from the top for so long! It's a sport that has 92% of arena tix sold but the Teams are suffering because the Marketing strategy is bad!

I could listen to Gary Thorne do ping pong and think it's entertaining. He is great. He usually does baseball and hockey. I am a big Yanks fan and the two schmucks they have are the worst. Kay on the tv side and Sterling on the radio side are two of the absolute worst. Michael Kay also does a radio show in NY, it is unlistenable (if that is a word). I like Jim Nance for football, him and Simms are good together. As far as Basketball I like Bill Raftery. Honorable mention goes to Howie Rose, a local NY guy who used to do Rangers hockey and Mets games. Famous for his Matteau Matteau Matteau call in the 94 playoffs when the Rangers beat the Devils.

Cardus, you are absolutely CORRECT!! Mike Emrick is as good as any play by player in any sport, maybe the best. He and John Davidson were a great pairing. And no offense Math, but Gary Thorne is HORRIBLE! at least doing hockey. Every play to him is like the 7th game of the Stanley Cup Finals, double OT! Which gets quite tiresome in the 2nd period of a pre-season game. And no one mis-calls players like this guy. He knows who wears #18, he just doesn't particularly care which team he plays for!

I'm surprised that noone has mentioned either of these: Brent Musberger and Harry Kalas. I know the latter is locally based (Phillies) ,but he also does Kansas City Chief games as well. Two of the best IMO..

A few years back, yes.

Van PAtrick did Lions games in 60's and 70's and also did early radio of MNF games.

Dick Irvin SR was a great player. Dick Irvin Jr was the voice of Hockey Night in Canada for Montreal games.

Forster Hewitt was HNiC's announcer for games from Maple Leaf Gardens. He broadcast for over 60 years. He coined the phrase, "He shoots, he scores." Also known for starting broadcasts with, "Hello, Canada, and hockey fans in the United States and Newfoundland."
