I heard that this will come down to time seved, but I really don't know how this will shake out. Seems outrageous to me.

David McDade? The county prosecutor? I don't care what party he belongs to I want to know how he sleeps at night? Another case of pandering to the public's bloodlust, I think the 15yo may have been white (not sure)...

Yeah, I don't care what party or race...wrong is wrong! The AG may be forced to file an appeal by state law, I don't know. What I do know is that McDade used this case for self-benefit, he's got a good rep in Georgia..DA of the year in 2005, 12 straight death penalty convictions..yippie! This is a travesty of justice and goes back to trying to legislate morality...go figure, one year for intercourse, ten years for oral sex??? Tried to say the 17yo was raped when the video tape clearly showed differently, the 15yo went from guy to guy...has repeatedly maintained that she did NOT use drugs/alcohol that night, did what she did cause she wanted to and enjoyed it...we can discuss parenting issues of the 15yo's mother perhaps but to lock up this kid for 10 years...unbelievable!

Well, I did those things at 16, my former brother-in-law was arrested in Florida at 17 for having sex with a girl on stage during a ZZ Top concert...not sure if those things are more meaningful than your son's purity...I suspect neither enter into this argument. I think you are wrong about 15 year old girls...many kids have sex much younger, this boy admits having sex at 13...should the girl have gone to jail for ten years if she happened to be 16? Laws to protect children from sexual preditors are absolutely necessary but the guy who drafted the original law (since repealed by the way) said it was never his intent to persecute teens.
