What if someone was killed when she blantantly broke the law. People like her are a menace to society and make all of us everyday hard working people who have respect for the law look bad.
Im sure if it was one of us we would not be able to pass go and go directly to jail.

Lots of anger but unfortunately short on facts. Because you dislike someone it's OK to mistreat them...old old story!

I'm safe as long as the Ohio State fanatics don't go there.

What a dumb thing to say.

This isn't the first time she has broken the law. How many chances does she deserve?

Your posts demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the issues here, this has nothing to do with giving Ms Hilton another chance, nobody has suggested that she shouldn't be held responsible for her behavior, the issue is whether she should be treated unfairly simply to "make a point" or because so many folks seem to dislike her and apparently feel that if they get their "pound of flesh" it will somehow make their lives better.

No matter who you are or what your status is in society there should be no favortism. If they are using her as an example because of her celebrity status then it is unjust.

Sounds like we agree...that's all I'm saying, punish her like anybody else!

you're right!

too often it seems a celeb is actually treated more harshly by members of the system. they want so hard to make it seem that they don't want to treat a star differently, but end up doing exactly that, by being over the top! but then...you have spector, on trial for murder, and not in jail during the trial. would you, or i, be home while on trial in that case? no.

The truth of the matter is that, celebrity or not, it's rare to be treated with absolute fairness by the criminal justice system. It depends on who you are and who's your attorney and who's the prosecutor and what judge you happen to end up in front of. Things even out, but only in the abstract. Case by case, someone's always getting treated too harsh or too leniently. Justice is surely not blind. The best you can hope for is that she's squinting a bit when you're on the dock.

I agree...the key is equal treatment. The rich will always have the advantage of being able to afford better lawyers with more resources (think OJ) and if the case is plastered all over the news, good lawyers will work for free...don't know how to get around that but it's not the judge's role to "punish" or "set examples" based on socio-economic status or race.

There are many "cracks" in our judicial system. Adding to the mess are the recent(5yrs) sentencing guidelines that handcuff all parties in a case. Somer: you still haven't read Grishams' The Innocent Man yet, have you??
