The other thing I learned on Saturday is that sometimes, you just have to play the chalk. That was an absolute chalkfest - I think the longest shot to win was Remarkable News, at least in any of the stakes races.

The problem with the ""chalk"" is, as we study, read, re-read we try and make a case for non-chalk because, heck if it was this easy, we would just play chalk and take the 7-5 on each race. I guess looking back the best bet was just take the three, box them in the triple and take the $50.00 payout
But dont we want to win more then $50.00 for a triple bet ? Also why do I think I HAVE to put pletchers horses in each exacta or triple bet ? What is this saratoga ?

I'm not talking just about the Preakness. I'm talking about the Schaefer, the Dixie, the Emirates Air, the Gallorette. Seriously, the longest priced winner on the board Saturday paid $5.90 for a dollar. It was unbelievably chalky.

I think a lot of people just boxed the top 3 Derby finishers for the triple. It barely paid twice what the exacta paid. The exacta was a better deal risk-wise. I looked at the race and thought the only chance to make any real money was the superfecta or Pick 4 (or the triple if 1 of the top 3 finished out of the money, which I though unlikely). Blew the Pick 4 on the Albarado launch. I also fell for the Circular Quay hype and included him in most of my bets. But in the 9th of my 10 bets involving the Preakness, I singled the top 3 finishers and then hit the ALL button. If Street Sense had won, with Curlin 2nd, I would have lost, because I went cheap on my saver bet and threw out C.P. West, who never did anything in any Graded race. The head bob saved my day.

And he wouldn't have won if Cosmonaut had had a clear run.
