Wow. This happens every season, though, so we can never take anything for granted.

The favorite and best performer almost always goes home without winning.

I'm thrilled for my girl Jordin though, but without a doubt Melinda was the best all-around vocalist from the beginning to the very end.

My DVR came up short -- can anyone tell me what Simon said about it?

He remained classy...congratulated Jordin and Blake and complimented Melinda...his body language indicated he was less than pleased though.

This thing played out exactly like I said it would...Jordin and Blake in the final and Jordin will win. I agree that Melinda is hands down the best singer of the bunch and perhaps in the top 2 or 3 singers ever to grace the American Idol stage, but she has zero market appeal and that became obvious when she came in 3rd out of 3. In fact, none of the 3 really have any long range appeal from a recording artist perspective. I see Blake cutting a mediocre album and then going to work in a place like Vegas as a house act and Jordin I believe will be on Broadway shortly after they do that tour...jmo....

I pretty much agree with you, although I don't think Melinda is the best singer to grace the American Idol stage. I thought that this year's American Idol was relatively weak and I wasn't impressed at all. I guess I'm a picky biatch.

Funny that you mentioned that.

1.) I just opened up a 24 oz. bottle of Pepsi.
2.) My company just sold 4.5 million shares of KO.

Last night was the FIRST time I watched a whole episode of American Idol (mostly because of all the posts on this site piqued my interest). I have friends who watch all the time, and I have seen bits here and there. But I never cared for what looked like a 'cruel' streak demonstrated in the opening weeks of each season.

Last night will be the LAST time I watch a whole episode of American Idol.

I would say that unless you hate the format completely, to give it a try on a night when they're actually performing. The results show is tiresome and tedious even for the most rabid AI fans. Expanding it to an hour midseason this year was the most obnoxious decision to impact my TV viewing schedule. If you're new to the show, try watching on a Tuesday instead, next week should be good!

I think, and have long thought, that Jordin has the best long-term prospects of these three. She's got a great sort of happy go lucky personality and just seems generally likeable, and she's the one of the final three who could be a bonafide "pop" recording artist like Kelly Clarkson regardless of whether she wins or not.

I didn't buy them.

Should we be selling short?

Okay, okay, I'll take your advice and try next Tuesday. (However, so far, I find Blake to be pretty annoying.)

The novelty wore off, so do the rest of us!

The finale is a very weird episode, it's all sort of pageant-y and strange so that too might be a poor example of why I love the show....but I can darn well guaratnee you that it will be better than last night

Midseason is usually the best when there are like 6-8 contestants left.

I'll count on you to cue me next year if I should watch.

Overall, Would Not Buy A Record By Any Of These Goons. Best Part Of The Show Are The Lookers, Haley, And The Jersey Girl, After That Pretty Bland Tv.

We never watched the show until our daughter visited a month ago. Her husband is the Idol addict. My wife got hooked. I'm not surprised Doolitle got axed. Nutbush City Limits might be the worst song ever written. She was a goner with that. She'd have been better off doing Proud Mary. Everyone loves Proud Mary.

Wasn't Nutbush City Limits picked for her?

Yeah, I agree, next Tuesday's show is easier appreciated if you've been watching and are invested in the singers. Blake has something that annoys me too, although in fairness, I've liked him a bit better in recent weeks...he's obviously a nice kid (as all the finalists seemed to be) but a VERY average performer. I just can't see him selling a lot of CD's. Jordin has the most potential, at 17 she is really still learning how to sing and more importantly, how to perform...her voice is outstanding and she could become a star...a big star. Melinda...well, she is the best singer this year, I'd say she ranks in the top 3-4 in Idol history; she never missed a note, put a lot of emotion into her performances...in retrospect, perhaps she was too consistent and the public took her for granted...that's the best explanation I can come up with for what seems to me to be a result as bad as if Sanjaya made the finals. This is the nature of the show however, there is no way to "fix" it and maintain ratings so...! The silver lining for Melinda is that she's had plenty of exposure and everyone in the industry knows her talent...in the long run it probably doesn't matter whether she finishes third or wins. I have to wish both remaining contestants the best...I'll wait until after their performances next week but I don't see how I could support Blake over Jordin...then again, my support may be the kiss of death!

Yes, it was the song picked by the show's producers...I thought she did a great cover of it...then again, I love Tina Turner....certainly Proud Mary (Tina's version) would have been a good choice too!

I don't know. I really only watch the songs. If it was picked for her, she wasn't done any favors.

I agree that this year was by far the weakest of all the seasons, not even close....I'm as picky as the come, I think that from just a singing ability point of view, Melinda is extremely talented. She is definately on the top shelf as far as singers go on that show....who is there with her? There are a few, but not many...

Besides Carrie Underwood (and I don't even like country music) Kelly Clarkson has been the most marketable. She has a good voice, great attitude, and has an advantage that no one else will ever have. She is the original American Idol. That in itself was worth millions of dollars....I don't think Jordin can compare from a marketing perspective with those 2.
