my friend gina and i were walking her two dogs, a weinerimer (sp) and a boston terrier puppy.

We walk by a house and Lola (the big one) starts barking. A big full grown wild stray cat attacked, followed by two more of the same size. Those cats backs got so high they looked huge. They were pouncing on the dogs and biting and scratching. They would not let up it was scary. I thought for sure I was going to get some deep gashes from those nails.

I kicked one in the side and he flew a few feet, regained composure and attacked again. Poor little puppy stood no chance against those nasty animals. So I went into "flight" mode instead of "fight" - i didnt feel like taking on a pack of strays.

I started running with the boston terrier (Bruno) and one of the cats chased us. Poor Gina was freaking out and I was just yelling to her run! run! She started running finally. The cats chased about 20 yards or so then turned back.

Some lady came running around the corner to see whats up. It was crazy!

Another page to write in my book of wild experiences.

Those cats seriously need to be put down. They are dangerous. I couldnt imagine what a mother walking with her young kid and their dog would face.. It would be terrible. 3 big cats together put a good fight together.

Moral of the story..

Stay away from the strays.
AT: get the dogs checked for rabies maybe?.....and any women should be using a walking stick for ANY varmints(2 or 4) legged

yes, we will be walking with sticks or 9 irons from now on. Gina is going to call the vet to see if they need any shots, etc. Gina and I are fine.. we were just shaken up and had a huge adrenaline rush.. the cats were mostly going after the dogs.

Pgardn your story sounds scary! I cant imagine if those cats would have attacked my face. But man, are those animals fast and they can really jump.

Lori,
Call animal control and report the attack (when and where) and maybe they will pick them up.

Although I have a lovely cat, Mitts, that I keep confined, I've been going round and round with NYS DEC, the local mayor in my village...
The story:
I plant an organic garden.
I buy the seeds, pick the rocks and weeds....rototill...on and on.
The feral cats use it as their "litter box".

To me, it's as disgusting as someone going down the produce aisle of your local market and pulling out a spray bottle full of cat urine to spray on your lettuce, spinich, and chard. The feces also hold pathogens that are not good for root crops like carrots and beets.

I've had enough of "cat owners" not keeping their "pets" confined.
And I'm currently seeking remedies so as not to "break the law".
I've had enough!

Seems to me that my beans are more important to me as the strays are to their "owners".

Cats are an invasive (non-native) species. They are a health hazzard.
So, do I put out bowls of anti-freeze, leg hold traps, or sit with my scoped 22 and pick em off when they come in my garden to do their business?
I've had enough of them!
Thanks for your suggestions...and letting me vent.
