I guess the article says it all. The horse people down here all grew up that way. Wasnt really "amazing", or "crazy" or different to us. Heck I never went to school football games, dances or anything like that, we had horses to run and that was alot more fun than any of those things. My mother was the first woman in La. to have her QH trainers license, and I was raised at the tracks. The movie Caseys Shadow? about friends of ours. Randy Romeo was my first crush,,,he was such a looker. Acadiana Downs was one of the more popular bush tracks, and Calvin rode quite a few there. Quarter horses, TB's all the same to the jocks.

Only thing that was wrong as far as what really happened and what the movie showed was the pony that died in the movie didnt die. That part was made up to be more of a tear jerker. But things like that have happened down here. We had a horse who had his face sliced open before a big race, had someone offer a jock $1000 to take off our horse to ride another one in a Derby,,,,funny thing about that is my dad was in a bathroom stall, guess the jock and the trainer didnt bother to look in the last stall and they start talking, so after trainer walked out, my dad coughed and said "Damn thats alot of money to get off the winner and ride a loser", Dad said jock almost died right on the spot. We won the race, and he came into the winners circle and apoligized. Too many stories to tell, it would talk all day.

Great story. This is one of the reasons this time of year is so compelling. It seems every year there is a new story worth listening to. How can you not root for a guy like Calvin Borel? Pretty much comes from nothing and works his ass off for years to get to the pinnacle of his business. Like Forde says, he was probably back at work this morning, because it is all he knows.
Not enough good things can happen to someone like that. We should all hope to be so blessed at some point.
