From a outsiders point of view that was a very impressive win you would hope there is some other horse in the wings that could beat him as after that race none of the others even came close.
I would have to back him again after that he made the rest of the pack look 2nd rate

For me it wasnt the fact he won but the way he won !! He never looked like losing that race.

I'll have to wait and see what the figs turn out like (and find out who else is running in the Preakness) before I declare any horse a triple crown winner. I'd love to see one in my lifetime, though...

I would take Hard Spun over SS in the Preakness especially if he runs like he did today.

If the race was 1 1/8 Hard Spun would have won

hell if they ran at 6F he would have run too..........

I would not be surprised if HS was done for the triple crown..that effort has probably taken it's toll..Larry comes from the Lukas school of recking good horses.

SS has a good chance at the Triple....

Really? why?
Street Sense took the lead at about 1 1/8 miles, and led for the length of the stretch.

The Preakness is only 100 yards shorter than the Derby.

calvin knows the race is shorter, and will ride accordingly. i look forward to a rematch between the two horses in maryland.

hard spun ran beautifully, i was yelling for him to relax a bit! he did ok, just a shame that he lost. but if he was going to lose, i knew it would be to that guy. street sense is good--i don't get the overpowering sense from him that i have from past winners-but his derby was a good race, can't take a thing away from him. top two are definitely good horses. curlins lack of seasoning imo contributed to his finishing back, but his raw talent got him third. look for more from him in future, today only being his fourth run ever.

Couldn't disagree more. Street Sense had already passed Hard Spun by 1 1/8 and the Preakness is a little longer at 1 3/16.

preakness is a whole new ball game. anything can happen. no two races are run the same way.

did someone hit the exacta?

btw

Zanjero had plenty of excuses
he checked repeatedly and running 3rd would have given me the trifecta 2 times... so ofcourse he couldn't get there
ofcourse the only one that was moving was Street Sense
everyone else was just playing pinball.

I never saw the blanket of roses on SS
did he get warm and have to be cooled off?

Really? Even though SS was a length in front of him at that point?

I agree. But the thing is, Hard Spun and Curlin will probably skip the Preakness, no? That will leave SS to beat a less-than-stellar and much smaller group...so he'll maybe get leg 2. But leg 3 without as much racing luck? Nope...

Why would they skip the Preakness....both would appear to have a better shot at beating him going 9.5 furlongs at Pimlico.

If they both skip the Preakness---Chelokee will be the second choice in the betting---and that would be a very sad day for racing.

You are overlooking the most obvious, and best challenger, outside of Hard Spun. That would be Any Given Saturday, who had no chance whatsoever yesterday.

Larry Jones said last night that they'll go to Pimlico.
