Wow, Kinane put on a riding clinic.

He steals the Mile on the front end gradually rationing out the speed of Able One who ran each quarter faster then the last one.

Then in the QE cup he waits in the rear during most of the race, saves all the ground, and times his charge beautifully on Viva Pataca.

Vengeance of Rain may have run as well or better than Viva Pataca. the difference was at the break, they were both on the outside, Viva Pataca dropped back and found a nice spot close to the rail before the first turn.
VOR was sent up around horses and was caught wide on the first turn while establishing his position up in third. To me it may have been the difference in the race.

Incident report(s)....

Champions Mile...
KAPIL began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, JOYFUL WINNER raced tight between BULLISH LUCK and CASINO PRINCE, both of which shifted ground. At the 1200 Metres, LINNGARI and CASINO PRINCE were carried wider by GOOD BA BA which shifted away from the rail behind THE DUKE. KAPIL, which was following LINNGARI, was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. After this, CASINO PRINCE raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. GOOD BA BA proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and passing the 1000 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLORAL PEGASUS. JOYFUL WINNER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 400 Metres was shifted to the inside of GOOD BA BA to improve its position. KAPIL hung out in the Home Straight. When questioned regarding the poor performance of BULLISH LUCK, B Prebble said due to the tempo of the race the horse was ridden more forward than it normally would be. He said BULLISH LUCK was not comfortable on today's track surface which had some cushion and not as firm as the horse usually prefers. BULLISH LUCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD BA BA, ABLE ONE and JOYFUL WINNER were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FLORAL PEGASUS at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed the horse had an epiglottic entrapment.

OEII Cup....
On straightening, ORACLE WEST became unbalanced after being bumped by ADMIRE MOON. At the 300 Metres, SUPREME GAINS was steadied and shifted to the outside of VIVA MACAU which was giving ground. Then after the 200 Metres, SUPREME GAINS was again steadied when awkwardly placed between VIVA MACAU and VITAL KING. After the 200 Metres, SEIHALI was shifted to the inside of SUPREME GAINS to continue going forward. For the major part of the race, ORACLE WEST travelled wide and without cover. ADMIRE MOON, VIVA PATACA and VENGEANCE OF RAIN were sent for sampling.

i like this part from the racingpost report

Viva Pataca, sent off 13-2 third favourite, was by no means unfancied, although the main feature of the betting market was the support for Admire Moon which, almost unbelievably, sent Hong Kong's hometown hero Vengeance Of Rain on the slide. Considering that everyone who entered the racecourse was
given a T-shirt depicting the eventual second, this was testament to the dominance of the mighty yen in the betting ring.
