hey brock, found this on drf....

Hopes sky high for Showing Up

Tagg said that Showing Up, who lost by a neck to Kip Deville in Friday's Maker's Mark Mile at Keeneland, would likely skip the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve on Derby Day and train up to the Grade 1 Manhattan on Belmont Day.

Though Tagg said Showing Up came out of the Maker's Mark "real good," he thinks the Manhattan might fit better into what he hopes is a championship campaign for Showing Up.

"If I can win a Grade 1 in New York in the spring and win another one in the fall and be lucky enough to win the Breeders' Cup, I think I'd be in good shape," Tagg said

This is ridiculous. They are basically saying they just need to win three races to get the Eclipse. What a joke these awards have made the sport. We need some sort of points system for these awards that actually enourage top horses to run 6-10 times a year rather than just trying to get a win or two and then hoping they can win in the BC to get an Eclipse award.

hey, worked for ghostzapper, so i guess any horse who wins half a handful of races can win a year-end award.

You have to figure Tagg, being a very conservative horseman usually, will run him in the Manhattan, Arlington Million, Man O'War or Hirsch at Belmont, then BC Turf. Wins in each of those races earn you an Eclipse, no doubt about it. It is a shame though that few run any more than that.

Maybe I'm one of the few who think Showing Up will not be successful at 12 furlongs, especially against Europeans. I just don't think 12 furlongs is his game. I give him a pass for the loss in the Man O'War last year since he was only 3 and facing elder, but he didn't look like he wanted that kind of distance.
