Weather & Track Conditions
Saturday, April 14, 2007 9:00 AM
The main track is fast. The turf course is soft. The rail is down.
Today's 4th race and 10th race, have been moved from the turf to the Polytrack. The 6th race--the Jenny Wiley Stakes--will remain on the turf.

Been raining hard early am and into late am....going to be very soft going on the turf and I expect the poly to favor speed more then other days, although not sure it is going to be biased, maybe just play more fair.

2DB,

Yeah.. Meant to include the 6, Mark of Courage, to make it $54, but you can use the other 2 at $36...

COMMONWEALTH Midnight Lute is a monster and very difficult to go past. Although he has not beaten older his A game drowns these. Named after a recruiting coup by Arizona coach Lute Olson, Real Quiet 4yo has been working as well as horses can work. Prado replaces Espinoza (who has a very full plate in Arcadia) and a wide trip this oval an advantage.

Blue Grass Street Sense is head and shoulders above this class but may be a bit vulnerable today. Carl shipped him to Keeneland to work before last years Futurity and after both the work and the race; both he and Calvin said he did not like the surface. Amid all the prattle that he will have only two Derby preps, it seems more difficult to win here than in Louisville in three weeks. The upsetter could be Dominican who has a stride made for poly and is undefeated on the surface. He sat comfortable at Turfway then drew away smartly, and although he picks up big weight, he figures a good stalking trip and will assume the lead when Tueflesberg stops. Including Great Hunter as well who has never been off the board and since the hood came on has improved each out.

Oaklawn Went four deep with no real conviction, Chatham, Angel Smoke, Champagne Slew and Wellofaprize.

Arkansas Derby Delighful Kiss is a deep closer in a race with tons of on paper speed. If Pletcher and Lukas set lively splits 'Kiss can run down the way overbet Curlin. "Kiss a homebred from a venerable farm has improved each and every start and his last three with Lasix he has shown a very powerful finish. Two back he slapped Sightseeing and Chelokee and in his last after a bad start he flew home against the big horse. Major rider relief, continued sharp works, a cushy post and four big pounds from something to five favorite. Call it 7/2,4,7/1,6,8,10/ 1 Good cappin. BBB

Quick rehash on yesterdays four is less than interesting. 'Lute off a bit slow never seemed comfortable and may have blown a shoe when he took a left hand turn nearing the pole. Bet down to nothing and would have had to run his "A" race to beat the winner anyway.

Dominican ran back to his previous poly form and nailed the champ on the line. 'Sense got what he needed and smokes this less than stellar crop in three weeks.

Oaklawn filly race winner pays some $60 from Assmussen/Padua in a race where picking who the favorite would be seemed impossible? Curlin impressive enough but this was the worst rendition in 70 some runnings. The eight runners he beat; a grade III winner, three minor stakeswinners, two entry level allowance winners, a maiden victor and a first time starter. Curlin will get some press in Louisville and take some money but he won't beat the champ. 'Kiss needed a hot pace and a career run and got neither. Pick 4 Payoff a bit cheap but congrats to the ticket holders. BBB
