I thought it was pretty good..I do prefer reading about the old timers that ran before I was alive or really interested in the game.

It is funny that you said it that because I just finished reading the FC book for the second time today. I definitely recommend it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Barcley Tagg as a trainer. He's my favorite one. Anyway, I was wondering what other horse books besides Seabiscuit are good to read? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't care for the Drape Triple Crown book, but Ruffian by Jane Schwartz and Secretariat by Nack are absolutely top notch. Max Watman's "Raceday" is a great book covering many notable runners, and "Finished Lines" is a fabulous compilation of thoroughbred writing through the years. "Stud" by Cronley is a smart, funny look at the breeding industry.

Wild Ride, The Rise and Fall of Calumet Farm, by Ann Auerbach. You will get a good idea of the people in the business. It is a great read. Unbelievable **** in that book.

Nobody writes or talks about horse racing like Bill Nack. His Secretariat book is the best.....by far. The man does not try to be fair and impartial. He flat out LOVED Big Red, and it shows in the book. But it shows in a good way. His love of the horse led him to write an incredibly detailed and thoroughly researched biography of a horse. It does not get any better.

i would recommend 'my racing heart' by nan mooney. not about any particular horse, but an excellent book for racing fans.

I'm kind of partial to Native Dancer. His blood flows in some of mine. I'd love to see a book about Swaps, Round Table, Sea Bird, and My Babu. Heck, throw in The Tetrach and Mumtaz Mahal while we're at it. DTS |
