No way....Giacomo had 1 win(maiden) going into the Derby. He had been a disappointment. This is why he paid more at Churchill than he did to people who played him in futures back in January.I think we saw this horse's best pitch yesterday, and someday we will see it again.I do believe this was his big race(like the Derby was Giacomo's big race.)Just like with Giacomo, everything came together that had to.I only saw the 2nd half of the card, but I reviewd the dirt races for the day.Tiago picked about the best day of the meet to be a rater(there haven't been many of those this meet.)Not like he was the only bomb on the dirt yesterday.I hope he does well in the Derby, but he and his half bro are not win machines. They are class horses that can win if things all line up right.I will say this though,TIAGO caught a horse who was not exactly swerving side to side.I mean Roxy ran pretty well late.

I thought Roxy looked tired and finished second on class alone.

i don't think he can get the 10....they had questions about him handling the distance, i wouldn't run him past 9. but it's not up to me obviously!

I think even 9 is stretching it... but you know that they'll try!

i was worried that he would give it up in the stretch, but he battled on--i like that horse!
but i don't believe he's a 10f-er. and yeah, 9 is stretching it for him.

I too thought Roxy ran well at the end, but the clock says he finished the final 1/8 in 13 1/2 which is pretty much hitting the wall. l looked again at the tape to confirm this and he still looks like he's running pretty well. So I dunno. Tiago finished in about 13 sec which means I guess he can run on.

But he isnt going to win the derby closing in 26 sec. Or not very likely.

based on that I would say: Roxy cannot get 10 panels, unless he somehow rates. Tiago yes, but not likely to win or even hit the board.

Yeah, I honestly don't see Roxy winning the derby.

I'm not bein a smartass, i'm just curious because I really don't know. How do you all come to the conclusion that 10f is out of his realm. I've heard this now from many people about this horse, and I just don't know enough I guess to understand why.

I think a lot of people, myself included had doubts because in his only other attempt at a 2 turn route, the BC Juvenile, he faded badly.

On Saturday he ran well and the pace appears to have been honest, but the field was not strong and the final time I guess was just okay. I don't think the question anymore is whether he can get 10F, but whether or not he is good enough to have an impact in the derby. Personally I don't think you can totally ignore him.

his pedigree--also the fact that he is a winner at 6-7 f, but not his first time at longer. i think he finished second more out of desire than ability! i just don't see him being as competitive at 9/10f as he can be at 6f-1 mile.

I read in the TDN that as of right now they are planning to go straight to the preakness with king of the roxy.

of the three classics, that one fits him the best imo. still going to be a toughie for him, but i'm glad they're skipping the derby.
