he kind of staggered out of the gate saturday. he was fortunate he had lots of room to slide right to the rail. he must have lost 2 lengths with that break so he actually ran a better race than at first glance.

Trainer described it as "hopped" on the break which is a term I've at least seen before. Never knew what it meant, but I guess that is what a "hopped on the break" looks like.
Left at the Gate blog says connections (? or someone in the know) seem to think his pedigree calls for him to stretch out; go figure. |

IT's not real clear, the author of LeftattheGate says Teuf. has an interesting pedigree for stretching out and then cites his column from 2/19:
"Teuflesberg, who made his 13th start, has suddenly now won three of four since getting buried in the Juvenile. He's been in training straight through since last April, so in the unlikely event that he's your 2007 Kentucky Derby winner, that would certainly cause a sudden change in the debate, wouldn't it? Seems like reason in itself to join the Teuflesberg fan club. He's by Johnannesburg out of a Devil's Bag mare, and the most interesting aspect of his pedigree to me is the fact that he is inbred 5x4 to the broodmare State (Nijinksy), with both sire and dam tracing to her tail-female. State is the dam of Narrate, who is the dam of Preach (and the 4th dam of Johannesburg), who's the dam of the fashionable young sire Pulpit (AP Indy)." So make of that what you will. I know nothing of this pedigree stuff I leave it to you to parse... |

They crossed State for Teuflesburg and that brings in a stamina influence. Also, T's bottom line is from the family of Round Table so there is stamina there. Enough stamina ? I'm more concerned about the number of races he's had.
