Did that say "surely allow him to take his proper place.....in the Hall of Fame".................LOL..........Can you imagine trying to squeak into the Hall by saying you should "surely" get in?? TOO FUNNY........If Tony Perez is in,then this guy should be in,or maybe neither should be in.I know he was a lot better than Tony was,and Tony was also a 1st baseman.So,it is tough to say Garvey shouldn't be in('cause Perez is already in.)

Garveys average season is .294 avg. .329 obp .446 slg. 19 hrs 91 rbis
79 runs 181 hits

That is not hall of fame numbers as a 1st baseman

Actually over his career Perez had very similar #'s to Garvey except he played a few seasons more and wound up accumulating higher #'s at the key HOF stats. He has 350 more RBI's, 140 more hits,55 more doubles 40 more triples 140 more runs and most importantly 107 more HR's.

Truthfully Perez got in due to intense lobbying on the behalf of the other deserving HOFers from the big Red Machine. He was definitely a borderline call.
