What did I miss? I like Jambalaya here too.

The winner and second horse got picture perfect trips and Einstein was much the best. And I say that as someone who didn't like his chances at all.

Without question he ran much better than I thought. But those wide trips are killers. Raffy could've come inside a number of times, but chose to keep him in the 4 path than drop in. He'll get a much better sheet number than the inside 2.

I think it was a combination of the wide trip and rushing the horse. Now, maybe he doesn't rate too well but it seemed like a ride without a plan.

yeah, enough with applauding those inside suckup trips. (he found trouble)

now we're trip handicapping (well, even if it's beyond OBVIOUS)

I guess Most Distinguished finally put it together. Judging by the times of earlier races he probably got a fig in the high 80s. Nothing spectacular but maybe something to build on. He's always shown some ability but just a refusal to win. Maybe this will be a confidence builder.

Agreed 100%. I waited all day for this race. As much as Javier got a picture perfect trip, it didn't look good there for a bit, LOL. I didn't like Einstein either but he was much the best today.

Breaking from that wide post, with a short run into the 1st turn, in a 3 turn-turf race---you kind of knew going in he would likely become a victim to that kind of trip....the top two finishers were drawn in cozy inside stalls.

I'd heard Einstein's trainer say, in interviews, more than once, that they would play the race as it unfolds, and use his speed if the pace gets soft, or try and tuck in a few of them cook.

I'm not so sure that was the best strategy to have going in.

Ummm, while a factor, the short run to the 1st turn did not cost Einstein the race. The jock certainly could've done a little bit better on the other 2 turns and maybe he didn't need to be in such a hurry. Ride like an idiot and still only lose by 3/4 to 2 suckups.

Priceless

Bejarano is not a guy that goes out of his way to try and save ground on the turf course.

Interestingly enough, It hasn't always been that way with him

He went 4 wide in the first turn and was stuck on the outside the rest of the way. Most likly cost him the race and me cashing a ticket.

Just now watched the replay....and I have to agree. Einsten was tons the best yesterday...horrible trip...3-4 wide first two turns and then 5 wide coming home...ran very well considering.

Agree with your sentiments. When they came by the stands , I was horrified to see him take Einstein 5 wide, chasing the entire race outside only to lose by less than a length was impressive. It occurred to me that his instructions might have been to keep him out of trouble, but that was ridiculous. Hope he draws better and has something left for the Pan American. I'm still a fan.

I'm always a fan of the old girl who takes on the boys in a race like this. Honey Ryder might have had the inside trip, but she certainly did not have a gaggle of running room until very late.
