I wouldn't call it a magical Derby formula....more like something that came to my crazed mind all of a sudden....and is based on only a four year sample. Like a whacky odd trend I'd say.
IMO, this is no Derby horse. This horse obviously has a massive amount of talent, and could be an excellent sprinter....possibly effective right up to a mile. I just have a feeling Lukas will badly mismanage this horse, and try to rush this horse on the Derby Trail. One of many examples would be the way Lukas managed Scrimshaw a few years ago. In his 2nd career start, Scrimshaw won a VERY strong alw race, I believe in 1:08 and change, on Santa Anita's opening day card (Ghostzapper was 4th as the odds-on favorite in that race) Schrimshaw, who could have been a very nice sprinter, was later rushed back off a 2 plus month layoff, in a desperate attempt to make the triple crown series, and won the Lexington Stakes two weeks before the Derby. Lukas ran him in all three triple crown races---and simply ruined him. |

I just think his philosophy has led to him ruining a real mind-boggling amount of very talented horses over the years. Many, I believe, could have really thrived under more careful handeling. |
