"He shouldn't need another race"? What does that mean? You know more than the McLaughlin Brothers about what the horse "needs"?

A lot of bluster above to say little. Jazil is an especially neat horse that you cleary have some irrational distate for.. If he never wins any kind of race ever again, he is a classic winner and will likely be a sire of note with his exceptional pedigree.

He's come back from the same injury, a painful one at that, which ended Smarty Jones' career, and it's terrific to have him out running at 4.

About as nicely put together a horse as you'll see.. And has a great temperment as well..

lol!

Also, it's not like Jazil is SO highly esteemed or SO much talked about to justify a post saying he is terribly over-rated. Jazil ran a creditable 4th in the Derby and won a Belmont vs the Derby 2nd place finisher. Nobody is calling him a monster or one for the ages. But I'm very glad to see him back for a 4-yr-old campaign.

that's the thing-i haven't really seen anyone hyping the horse-or even rating him at all. he hasn't been around. there is interest in him, which is natural for a classic winner, and i'm also happy to see him back at four. he could turn out to be anything. but i'd say the majority of talk since last spring was about bernardini, invasor and lava man-with maybe a blurb or two about jazil once in a while.

I haven't really heard anyone overhyping this horse...but he has won a classic (regardless of what you might think of the field) he is well bred (out of a stakes winning mare) he has a good overall record of 9 2-4-0 with one of his unplaced efforts being his 4th in the derby...and most importantly HE IS STILL IN TRAINING AT 4....what's not to like?

Better Than Honour on the rail...in the Demoiselle

My buddy Chris loved him after that Wood effort...at the time, thought he was no better than a deep closer. Finished right where I thought he would in the Derby...did surprise me with his running style in the Belmont. Too bad he got hurt then...would have improved a lot if he continued to run last year. His return race was just find and the winner there (Take the Bluff) won back yesterday. If he gets the right set today, should have a big chance versus these. Give him a lot of credit, he's back...more than I can say for the three year old champ of last year!

The more I think about the slight at the top of this thread, the more annoying it is. The fact is, there aren't ENOUGH Jazil's around... Bred to run forever in a world of cheap speed... Sire Seeking the Gold needs no introduction... Dam Better Than Honour, as Pais mentions, was a multiple stakes winner: Demoiselle, Acorn and Comely. She's a Deputy Minister mare. Has a 2yo by Mineshaft.

The 2nd dam, Blush With Pride by Blushing Groom, was a KY Oaks winner, as well as winning 3 other grades and placing in three other Gr. I's... Third dam is Best in Show (Traffic Judge), a Comely winner like her grandaughter, and 1982 Broodmare of the Year.. Not only is Jazil more than useful or nice, he's important as he's carrying what looks to be an excellent sire's pedigree that can contribute to the stamina side in the shed.

Jazil is a deep deep closer type. His type dont win every time they set foot on track. One thing is for certain is that this horse is not a plodder who pass by tired rivals. Jazil has a mean turn of foot that is uncommonly seen day to day. I kind of like that he is getting one more race under him to prep for graded company. This horse will love going long in his next.
