I was watching the race (on the computer) when it happened and originally thought Garcia's horse had clipped heals with American Ivy and that's what brought them all down... I watched the race replay after reading the final chart and it was horribly facinating to watch - American Ivy was a beautiful gray so it was easy to identify her (that and I was watching her becuase I had $$ on her) and it looked like she just ran down a hill...her head dropped a little and she just sunk down - and then the chain reaction started. Garcia did a great job of rolling away from the stampede after he went over his horses head.
It was just sad to watch. American Ivy was an amazingly fit horse having just run a 5f bullet of :59.4 on the 20th and also had just won a 40K alw less than a month ago. She was a beautiful 4 y.o. who was on the verge of doing very well in Northern California under Art Sherman. Another sad loss for the racing world. RIP American Ivy
