i do not see how the field can keep chief cocca from wiring the 7th race. there is simply no horse in this race fast enough, or with the inclination, to keep him honest. there was a time when this horse was highly thought of, rightly or wrongly, by his connections. for whatever reason, it took him awhile to reach his stride. it looks like he finally has, and this field should crumble behind him. the stake he just came out of in phoenix was a very productive race. what is the reason this horse shouldn't go out on the lead, make all the race, and stop the timer in 12 and 2 or 3?

1st of all,Cocca broke his maiden for M25CL,and he beat horses down the hill that had also broke their maiden in M40CL or less. Most of these did not beat MAIDEN CLAIMERS when they broke their maiden. That being said, horses can find a course etc. that they like, and can improve to face the type he faces in this race. So,the horse is certainly not without a shot.I just think it is a big step up from what he beat.I also want to say that there was something odd about the times down that course that day. There were 2 races down the hill that day. Both winners are in this field.

Cocca ran 21.31, 43.26, 1:06.05, 1:12.38 in beating horses who had all broke their maiden for 40 maiden claiming.

Rush Rush won later down the hill against straight maidens.
21.22, 43.23, 1:06.25, 1:12.04

I'd like to tell you that both these horses can routinely run these times.
The problem is that RUSH RUSH beat Seastate by 3/4 of a length.O.K.,and that horse can not break it's maiden. The way I see it,Cocca ran slower than the pig Seastate.O.K.,so he won down the hill, but I don't think what he did would beat this bunch.I think what RUSH RUSH did later that daywould not beat this bunch. They both need to do better than they did,and there is nothing that says they can't,but I wouldn't use those times on the 18th of October as any kind of measurement. They were simply odd.Seastate would be hard pressed to run a 1:12:1 again.I know that much.I think your horse can run a 44 flat(maybe) down the hill. Will somebody else? I can see the 1 horse doing it.I can see the outlaw horse doing it.I know the Seminole can make a middle move to go with your horse in the middle on.Whether these horses do this is a question. If they don't,your certainly correct.Cocca could be tough. These are tougher..That's my major point.

He is correct about the angle though. Not out of the question for these guys to whack off back there, and let Cocca walk up front.I don't think it will happen, but it could. There are some that have been trying to route, and if they want to,they have 21'3 speed.Does no good though,if they get taken back. Each race down the hill is highly unique.Horses who like the hill often do nothing. Those that have never won down it can easily win.Slot Machine adjacent.

thanks for explaining cocca's pps to me. didn't understand what a alw 40000s was.

anyway, there was a reason that this horse took the year off between feb05 and feb06, and whatever it was, it looks like it took some time and racing for this horse to get to the level that the connections thought he was. they spent alot of time in the msw company, obviously because they thought he belonged. it took some time and some class relief to get him over the hump, but it looks like he's there. it would be hard pressed for anybody in this field to beat florida keys, so his performance in phoenix isn't anything to get all bothered about. the horses that were showing speed in the routes will have to pick it up to the tune of 10 lengths to the first call if they want to be near the front, and, though that isn't an impossibility, usually extended route racing dulls early speed to some extent.

6 months ago i would have agreed that he was outclassed in here. aside from rush rush and seminole native, we have a bunch of career n1x losers. who knows what frankel is bringing to the talbe in this one. frankel/flores is 12/23. awesome.
