You would think the field is good enough that he should be 2-1, but I think too many people know about him.

Here's what an astute and keen race watcher(I am laughing as I type this)had to say back in mid April about Minister's Bid:

I haven't capped the race, but I certainly hope Flashy Bull shows his "stuff" here. Looks to me like the Nielsens have him pointed to the Travers.
As Niel Nielsen has previously said, "I'm probably the only person in the country who would rather win the Travers than the Kentucky Derby."
I hope so, and as an Albany-Times by, Tim Wilken, article said...
"They might be watching the Travers from an owner's box instead of at a picnic table."
N Nielson also said, "Believe me, the Kentucky Derby is pretty big but I've always wanted to have a horse in the Travers."

So I'll be cheering for Kiaran McLaughlin, Carole and Neil Neilsen, West Point TB's, and especially Flashy Bull!
Go get 'em big grey!

That guy is full of it. There is nobody alive that rather win the Travers than the Kentucky Derby. Good luck to his horse but horses like Ministers Bid and Bernardini are in a completely different league than Flashy Bull types.

BR,
Whatever, I was just quoting an article I read.
I'm going to hope that Flashy Bull does something for his connections.
I also have no problem with Ministers Bid. I own two Deputy Ministers myself.

Sometimes, I just hope for other NY owners.

I rather see him win before Bernardini or Ministers Bid too, because I like the little guy compared to the big rich owners, but you just can't compare the derby and travers. I can rip off the last 10 derby winners off the top of my head, but could barely remember who won last years travers.

I hear ya BR,
No comparison between the KD and the Travers. I was just quoting an article.
I usually make it to Toga for that race...and especially the King's Bishop on the card that day.
Some memorable Travers winners...Victory Gallop, Point Given, Birdstone.
Didn't make it to last year's...so who won last year? I'm blank on that one.

Yeah, who'd remember pigs like medaglia D'oro and Point Given huh?

Household names. LOL.

9/10 derby winners were- Barbaro, Smarty Jones, Funny Cide, War Emblem, Monarchos, Fusaichi Pegasus, Charismatic, Real Quiet, Silver Charm.

All 9 are bigger names than Medaglia D'Oro. 8 of 9 are bigger name than Point Given.

Let me roll off the real impressive Travers winners. Unshaded, Lemon Drop Kid, Coranados Quest, Deputy Commander, I can't think of anymore. Nobody outside of big racing fans has heard of any of these horses.

Millions watch and listen to the derby, you can catch the Travers on ESPN2, as long as women's softball isn't running long. LOL.

IMO, it's not fair to put Bernardini in the same category as Minister's Bid. All MB has done is break his maiden - Bernardini ran a phenomenal race to win the Preakness in just his 4th start and first around two turns. Whether or not MB is that good is still to be determined. Right now, I can't see any three year old beating Bernardini.

Boy I do. Bernardini won't win the Travers IMO.

You have not been impressed with Bernardini?

We agree on Mineshaft (for which I'm grateful, since I spent much time exhausting myself defending him), but part ways here. Obviously no horse is unbeatable....so, that's not my point. This horse has so much ability, it's scary.........and he can only get better. I'm curious as to why you think he can be had. IMO, Bluegrass Cat and the horses behind him are plodders; they have no shot. By the time they make their move, Bernardini would be too far out in front (as he can move in a flash). Jazil? I just don't think he's all that fast.......

Flashy Bull is in tomorrow at Belmont in a NW1X that came up extremely tough. The race also drew Minister's Bid, a Ward runner who was IMO the most impressive Mdn winner of the spring Kee meet when he closed over that track wide and earned a 97 Beyer. Racketeer is in there as well; he was 4th beaten only 2 1/2 by AP Warrior and Point Determined in the San Felipe. Forest Phantom has a 2nd to High Finance; Habsburg is a Harty runner off a Mdn win at Bel (93 Beyer) and Elements is off a solid 3rd at Bel; 8 lengths in front of 4th (93 Beyer). This has the makings of a key race.
