Default What Happened To This Forum?

Where is everyone? Where did everyone go? It used to be so full of people talking horses and racing, and it just died. I miss you all. Please come back.

Still here but I don't bet as much or post as much. I’m sure others are still around.

Obviously Twitter changed the horsey talk landscape tremendously, but I know a number of people have trouble accessing the site because the certificate is way out of date and they get a warning trying to get on. My webdev guy left the business several years ago and I have no way to update a lot of the back end infrastructure. That's why I've warned that an end-of-life crash will come at some point and I won't be able to recover the site.

The ATR.com managers couldn't integrate DT into there, so I expect to add a message board to it when we're done here. Even though there isn't the chatting that went on for a long time, I use DT to record the show lineups, note topics I cover on the air and format my analysis and am happy that long time DTers still enjoy visiting.

Still around. I always thought it was a few posters that would end up running most people away. Nobody wants to hear that they are a moron or stupid for all of their racing takes. I think it's great to get on and analyze races, before and after but it doesn't seem like many people want to do that anymore.

KG, Steve has mentioned that the website has technical problems that will eventually crash the site. He believes that many of the users are probably finding issue with accessing the forum...there are a few that still post, I pulled back a little just because of available time. Good luck at the windows!

I don’t think I knew about the Yahoo board.

I started posting on the ESPN Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies boards probably early 2000s then switched over to a now-defunct message board called sports-boards. Steve posted on the Eagles board but must have mentioned derbytrail and I ended up over here.

I used to play in a pick 6 contest which I think was on the ESPN website. When that contest ended I saw on the ESPN message board that Derby Trail was starting up so I joined. Undoubtedly, after all this time, I am a better player because of it. I still make a lot of dumb mistakes, but maybe not quite as many as I once did.

As for having trouble accessing the website, I did get warning messages for a while, but I started accessing DT through ATR and I wouldn't get the warning messages and now I don't get them at all no matter how I try to access. I hope that DT doesn't implode at some point.

Holy **** Mose.. I didn't realize that you came from the Birds page on Sports-Boards! I remember running a Super Bowl Props Contest a couple times (Donovan McNabb bobblehead was one of the prizes) and absolutely put up links to DT. That was a fun group of Iggs fans.

The Citgo Pick 6! Love that the board has helped you as a player..

And very glad to hear the certificate issue isn't causing problems.

The opposite is actually true. This place once had plenty of debate, some of it by knowledgeable people. It's like a cocktail party, where four or five people are having an interesting discussion, and they get interrupted by one drunk. So, one smart person leaves, and another drunk enters, and before long it's just four drunks babbling to each other.

Anything worth doing is difficult. When I was young, and still thought I knew everything, I constantly annoyed serious and experienced players, and they were hardly kind in concealing their annoyance. I'm grateful for their abuse, because I didn't go home, cry, and walk away from the game. I studied more, worked harder, and improved my opinion. Years later, I was no longer the least knowledgeable person in the conversation, and years after that I because a part of the conversation.

Nobody ever really got anywhere worth getting by passive aggressively pointing fingers at others.

Agreed, that was a great group! I’m hoping they were all still around for the last 7 years.

I remember those contests. I finished “in the money” for one of them. I think I won an Eagles blanket? It was a long time ago, I can’t remember.

Steve used to post the Race of the Day contests or trifecta contests, I won one once and he sent me a really cool Satatoga stein and a 5-Star Dave bobblehead. Bobble head is at work and the stein stays in my bedroom, out of reach from kids and cats
