I swear to god I called it being over 2 days if they were ever gonna add more races. I said that, because they could do it like they do Kentucky Oaks Day. Not as populas as Derby day, but still popular in it's own right.

Filly and Mare Sprint was much needed. Dirt mile maybe... 2 year old Turf Mile? Hmmm... I'm going along with a lot of people's opinions in here that the 2 year ld races should be scrapped all-together. If you wanna argue (and the BC people as well) that it build up hype for the 3 year old campaign, how much hype does it really build up with the jinx of winning the BC Juvy?

I think this thread was only 3 pages long when I started reading it..

They start racing early on BC day and there is 30 minutes between races.
The other 3 races could easily fit in one day. I believe the other 3 races will be 2nd fiddle to the real BC races. I won't take a day off to bet those races on Friday. The handle won't increase enough to justify the extra day.

So people get bored watching 4 hour basbeall games.. that's because there is 15 minutes of excitement packed into every 4 hours of baseball. There's more excitement in 2 minutes of racing than there is in the World Series. The thinkg man's sport (thinking, "is that paint dry yet?")

I again say this is a chance to show the sport. How many red letter days do we get? If we keep saying we need to bring more fans into the game, then this COULD be one way if done properly.

Yes, the people on this board know the ponies inside and out, but joe public doesn't. On that second day you'll be playing the ponies anyway so suffer through three more races you may not care for and make the most out of it.

It's like going to your inlaws for Christmas, you may not want to be there but heck, it's Christmas.

I say stop bickering, and look at the positive for the sport. Should the disctances be different, the type of race, the time of race...maybe, but it just doesn't matter.

It is what it is, so lets just take our sport out of the closet one more day and shine.

That's my 3 cents worth (extra cent for extra races)

After reading the whole thing I have these thoughts. Personally, I can care less about the what races are run on this day, as long as they are competitive and offer value, which, they do. Running them on Friday is a bad idea, and the pools will show it. What gambler has a Friday off of work, especially if it is a payday (non direct deposit)If you are going to have 10 BC races, RUN THEM on a single card, and start the card at 11am CST. What this does is force the track to not have 1023 minutes between races, and have normal 30-40 minutes between. That, in turn, makes people pay more attention thus ratings go up. What is going to happen is that winning a BC race is going to be like winning a wild card in Baseball or football, who cares, have to stop diluting major races.

i say get rid of the 10f 'classic' and make it 12f!

why is it a juvie filly can run 1 1/16, but an older mare only 1/16 further? and a horse only 3/16 further? why is that acceptable as meaningful, as a real test??

oh, and scav--i love direct deposit.

Biggest mistake the BC committee ever made (until this week) was cutting the BC Distaff back from 10f to 9f in 1988. Made it a race for milers, not classic horses.

Second biggest mistake is having a 6f sprint. Six furlongs is the cheap speed distance, not worthy of a $1 million purse. I would hold out for the longest one-turn distance from 7f to 8f that the host track could manage. Obviates the need for a new mile race.

Third biggest mistake is making the Juvie races two turns. This has led to the 'back-dating' of 2-turn prep races for 2yos into LATE AUGUST, which is a guaranteed formula to shorten careers by stressing immature knees and ankles on twice as many turns. Affirmed never raced around 2 turns at 2 in 9 starts; races like the Remsen, Ky JC, Breeders Futurity, were one-turn miles(or not quite a mile) and did just fine pointing out top prospects.

The way they are lengthening juvenile races and shortening races for older horses, pretty soon races for all ages will be one distance (maybe 1 1/16), like the trotters.

I think the correct question is, which die-hard, WON'T be taking the extra day off?
