And his this didn't happen during Trumps term therefore it wouldn't be happening now is real true strategic thinking...

Why would it happen during Trumps first term when Trump faced an election for a second term? If it happened and Trump let it then he would have no chance whatsoever of being reelected. It was always going to happen in 2021 or later when Trump didn't have an election ahead of him or he wasn't the president.
