I live in tornado alley, but they usually pass over Hot Springs without a problem. A few years back one hit about 15 miles east of my house in the small town of Malvern. Here in Arkansas we did lose a couple of people in the extreme northeast to the storms, but that is about 4 hours from where I live. Arkansas is dissected by an interstate that runs from the Southeast to Little Rock. Seems like the tornadoes almost always hit east of the interstate for some reason. Maybe because of flatter ground, I guess. Western Arkansas is more mountainous. Eastern is where all the rice, soybeans, cotton etc. is grown in the Mississippi River Delta which tends to be very flat.
