A HORSE 🐎 Named FAUCI
Runs In Race 9 Wednesday at Saratoga

Can’t help but wonder 💭
What inspired the owner or breeder to use that name 🙄

Just a guess on my part, but I'm thinking it might be an admirer and not a detractor. Would you want to name your horse after someone that is universally reviled like John Wayne Gacy or Ted Bundy? There are those, I'm sure that revile Dr. Fauci, but those that admire him too.

I think that there are owners that try to make some sort of social commentary with the names they choose and I guess that's as good a reason for a name as any. I think I saw one named Trump something or another last week, but can't recall the exact name.

This is probably a discussion that could veer off into politics pretty easily. I think I'll just leave it at Dr. Fauci had a tough and unenviable job.

He's been racing for over a year now, including a number of small stakes races. He has entered 8 races, with 2 wins and 4 seconds and earnings of $222,800.

This article was published in June, 2020, shortly after Fauci's debut at Belmont. I think that the article will answer your query.

"Fauci the 2-year-old colt finished a distant second to a horse named Prisoner and was well ahead of third-place Indoctrinate in his much-anticipated debut Wednesday at Belmont Park. In a sport known for topical names, Fauci is the first of a series of horses inspired by the coronavirus pandemic and the latest tribute to the respected director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Social Distancing, Self Isolation, Flatten the Curve, Herd Immunity and No Spectators have also been registered with the Jockey Club.

Co-owner Phillip Antonacci picked the name Fauci in mid-March after the 79-year-old started doing daily coronavirus briefings from the White House. The Antonacci family, like Fauci, is Italian-American and from Brooklyn.

“We wanted to honor the service that he’s given to the whole world: beside COVID, fighting all the other infectious his whole life,” Antonacci said. “Throughout the whole thing, he seemed like a voice that knew what was going on and, without trying to be too political, kind of calmed things and provided real data behind what was going on.”

Antonacci hoped to name a filly after Dr. Deborah Birx. In the end, though, Antonacci said he didn’t have horse good enough to name after the coordinator of the White House’s virus task force.

This colt who debuted Wednesday was named Fauci in part because his owners thought he’d be a special horse. Trainer Wesley Ward has seen that since the then-unnamed horse got to his barn in September.

“He’s a beautiful colt, done everything right on the track in the mornings, got a beautiful mind on him to where he’s not fractious or anxious and seems very, very intelligent,” Ward said. “He’s just a real easygoing guy. Not much bothers him.”

Antonacci has sensed a lot of hype surrounding the horse because of his name. Since the global pandemic began, Dr. Fauci’s likeness has been used for a plush doll, a bobblehead and a donut, and he has a namesake beer.

And now a thoroughbred.

“He’s a really, really good horse,” Ward said. “Especially with the name that’s been assigned to him, you know that he’s got to live up to the name.”

It's almost like he was tasked with trying to guide and help the country through a virus we knew little about and he made changes and adjustments when new information came out.

How dare he roll with the punches and not just dig his feet in the sand and keep the same opinions he had regardless of what new info comes out. That's what smart people do, right?

Certainly the virus can change and views need to be adjusted. My belief is he knew what was going on behind the scene. That's all. He gave the MSM what they wanted as things changed. Such a hero.

BTW, I am vaccinated, reluctantly. I have various health conditions and decided, after talking with my doctor, that I should do it. Although I have second thoughts about it but it's too late now. Although I am vaccinated and followed guidelines I just got over Delta. Fever, joint and muscle aches, and very severe sore throat.

I just think Fauci wanted his 15+ minutes all the while knowing what's really going on but not being truthful about it all.

What are you basing your belief on?

Let’s not forgot, he initially was dealing with a President and an administration who only deal in deception and alternative facts. They wanted to sugar coat everything.

If you had Delta and that was all you had you should be very happy you were vaccinated

I fully agree with Don Guido. This originally started with a discussion of a horse's name. Let's get back to thoroughbred racing. Please.
Who do you like in the 8th?

"Who I really am?" Stop it Don. You're making me laugh. Have we really been playing with Governor Abbott or DeSantis all this time? Just joking, I don't think you lean in that direction. You are so right about Facebook. It is a cesspool of propaganda. I generally try not to comment unless there is something that is so glaringly a fabrication or historically wrong that I can't resist. I was hoping that the subject of Dr. Fauci wouldn't go to Def-Con 1, but people have a right to speak their mind, although it might be better, if we stuck to horse racing.

I apologize Don. You're correct.

I will refrain from any political POV from here on out. Thank you.
