Roamin, that's a comment that begs a question. When I've looked at the Wood and the Derby runners exiting from it, I've seen a race that was on the slow side and runners with numbers that are a cut below the top tier of contenders. I've felt that Bourbonic and Dynamic One were both a bit of a reach and deserve the long odds that their backers will receive. You could be suggesting that Brooklyn Strong's Wood was just a workout and that we should look at his performance in the Remsen, which is a very interesting lonshot angle.

With that in mind, what am I overlooking?

Default Quirky Cat Choices

JOLY
If you think his choices are a bit of a “REACH”
You’ll probably get a chuckle out of ONE of mine

#13 HIDDEN STASH = MY FAVORITE NUMBER
AND A CLEVERLY SIGNIFICANT NAME

Trainer: Vicki H. Oliver
Jockey: Rafael Bejarano
ML Odds: 50-1

MANDALOUN ( Into Mischief = Fave Sire )

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ESSENTIAL QUALITY (* GRAY OBSESSION)
( Illogical to play at 2/1 )

In a 20 horse field, I tend to avoid the closer types. I think I learned my lesson with Dialed In. I think he finished last. However, I did bet Strike the Gold and he was a closer, but I think that was when the field usually had some speedy sprinters that got in based on money won and not points. All that said, it does seem to me that the times at Aqueduct always seem a bit slower than the same horses might get at another venue, but even so, the Wood seemed to be a pretty slow race.

Mid packers with a strong early-late pace, relax and finish with gusto. Have I described anybody???

Well all i know is this is the Derby and racing luck has a lot to do with a 20 horse field.
This is going to be one of those races. Say what you want but this is my choice, win or lose, This is where my $$$$$$$$$ are going. Good luck to all.

Your opinion is as good as anyone's Roamin and probably better than most. The Derby has been a bit chalky in recent years, but maybe it's time for a long shot closer to win. Anything is possible. I imagine that Mine that Bird had few backers. I know before the race, I wasn't even sure he belonged in it. which is a crystal clear example of what I know about it.

We haven't seen any riders do the Calvin Borel patented rail trip in a long time. Maybe this is the year. Good luck to you and to everyone here. We may win or we may lose, but it should be a very entertaining afternoon.

Default Exacta

My list of possibles for the exacta gets longer and longer. I'm now up to 11 horses. I doubt I will hit anything or if I do, it will be the chalk and I will actually lose money.
