That's one of the drawbacks of including an extra race or two from a track 3 times zones away from the primary one. It can be very difficult to learn of track conditions and scratches at the extra track by the time all of our entries are due. In handicapping a race, I like to pay attention to how the pace of a race will most likely unfold, and certain scratches could dramatically affect my analysis (although some would say my wild a** guesses). Just something for those fortunate enough to select venue in the future to keep in mind.

I call myself trying to figure out pace also, but I think I did better when I just went by beyer speed figures. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Not sure when my handicapping took a turn for the worse. Might have been when I started trying to figure out pace or when I started relying wholly on brisnet pps. Could be I just never was that good at handicapping.
