I'd hate to be the guy to play a superfecta and needed Beau Recall to finish 4th instead of Uni. That would be so gut-wrenching a loss that it would probably drive me away from betting altogether. Yikes!

I've never played one of these tournaments. Why would you have to bet half your bankroll on one of the last 2 races?
Do you play in tournaments boss ? It seems like if you did, you would have won at some point. If not, why ? If thick Vic and Houston Nick win them, you should be able to take one down.

Played a little bit years ago and found it intimidating/confusing and subsequently a negative impact on my actual betting. That was the old fashioned W-PL style though and I should probably try it again with the advent of the bankroll contests.
