I would estimate I have bet around $1800 in 2006 and have earned about $32,000. I have had eleven signers so far in 2006. I bet 90 percent pick 4's all with serious homework. BBB

Wait a second....I am sure I am reading this wrong....you aren't suggesting your entire handle for the year was $1800 ( or roughly $50 a day ) and that with that handle you also made $32K? |

Well, like I said it has to be a misprint, otherwise that poster desperately needs to enroll in an internet lying course.

I'm a winner because my mom tells me so.
Seriously though, I'm up for the year. I hit a few pick 4's and had a great Derby day, a great time at the BC. The only track that put a beating on me was Del Mar. |

I will finish the year in the black, however 2006 was the worst Saratoga meet I've ever had if you remove Woodward day from the equation. Most of the profits came on 4 or 5 weekends with a lot of small to medium losses in between.

Well maybe the poster meant that they $1800 was his own money. Maybe the rest of the wagers came from winnings from that initial $1800 investment. Does that make sense?

I pushed about $5000 through the windows for a wagering loss of $29. This comes out to negative $300-$400 when I include the expenses of internet wagering accounts and DRF's. I had a lot of fun for something like $30 per month. That's a winning season for me.

I broke even or ended up a little over. If you include poker... then I won a good amount considering what I bet. 6 tourney's at casino's total and 5 final tables including two 1'st a 3rd, 5th and most recently 7th. Bet maybe 500 and returned about 3,000 so I am up about 2500.
Horses I probably bet around 500 and returned 500-600 in that range. Not too bad in the gambling department this year! |

Probably lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 to 1000 dollars annually,
but that's ok. Have no other vices. Don't drink or smoke. Too old to do the hibbity dibbity. If I didn't bet on horses, somebody would try to make a religion out of me. |

If i would have bet Mountaineer only for the whole year i would've shown a profit. But since it took me about 6 months to decide to do that i with heavy heart have to confess i'm below the Mendoza line.

I'm down on horses as well, last i checked it was somewhere in the 350-400 range which all in all, for a year of fun, is so well worth it.

I'm not sure, but my innate BS detector is reading there is validity in BellsBendBoy's claims...... And for myself, I remember the days of the ESPN board where people would joke about the foolishness of someone playing "*ALL" somewhere on their Tri or Super bets. I never admitted it then, but now I will.....I'm a big player of two horses with the "a bunch" in super and tri plays. I only bet at the OTB about 30 times a year. Probably about half those times I see a race I really like from my casual following of the west coast tracks, and I go in with one fixed bet in mind. Usually a heavy win, with some back up Exactas. About 10 times I'll go in with a "lose" budget of $200 to $500 and play "picked on the spot" WIN and PLACE, and if I get a little of the track's money loosen up (with the help of some Bud Light) and buy some "lotto type" tri's and supers. It's a rare year that I do not have signers. On a good day I'll win $300 to $500, and on a great day I'll win $900 to $3000. Probaby 1/3 of the time I end up between -$200 and +$200. I NEVER lose more than $300 to $500 on my bad days, so my losses are controlled. It works for me, and I have a helluva good time. And when I get the nice win, I always celebrate and do something concrete with the $$ besides putting it back in the track. Nice dinner for the wife, or a good bottle of wine. Or some nice electronics or something. That said, I've been in less lettuce before in my life, and had an equally heckuva good time playing 9 races of $5 win/place bets. I just love horse racing. |

I bet on horse races for the same reason Steve Fossett flies balloons around the world - I want to conquer something... I like to compete and win but I'm getting too old to play sports anymore and I've found that people don't like to play games with me because I'm an obnoxious winner and a piss-poor loser - bad combination for social events So, instead, I go to a track, or stay at home, and watch the horses run, and yell at them and pound my fist - and if I win - great... and if I lose - well, g*d-d*amn it! It just feels good to compete.

So far,
i have managed to show a marginal profit from strictly a money in vs money out standpoint. but when you consider all the expenses associated with my wagering, Im sure I am down. gas money spent going to the track, daily racing form costs, online past performances expenses, and just general time spent on this game. no way I came out on top. but I dont care. some ppl spend money on ppl they care about. I spend money on myself and the things I enjoy like gambling. Repent |

BTW: My numbers are pretty accurate, but after some calculations I will move the amount bet for 2006, to $2000. Although the naysayers will line up, ALL my pick 4 bets, with analysis are posted somewhere.
The gray area in the amount bet arises when I have blown the first leg and really like a nice priced horse in a later leg. I went as far back as I could at www.nola.com/forums/startinggate and post # 6974 is a good example. My pick 4 was blown in leg one, but I loved a horse in a later leg who romped at some $47, with a big triple to boot. That particular page included several other scores. Good cappin. BBB |
