That is odd statement right... 1500 feet basically is down the block.

I agree it's odd, and statistics are not absolute anyway. If a plane crash happens tomorrow, the fact that it's been so long since the last one, or that it likely did not happen in the same place before, doesn't really tell us anything.

Also, the absence of recorded events is not the same as having them. Yeah, avoid high crime areas that DO have frequent crimes reported within a certain radius of your destination, but assuming that everything is OK due to a lack of data is not nearly as predictive.
