Default water on mars!!

nasa just had their big accouncement they said they would have this morning.
this is awesome news.
and if it turns out that it's something we could use, that makes a mars journey by humans that much more likely to succeed. the biggest question all along was what to do about water? we have to have it, and to carry it there, back and have while on the planet...well, that would be one hell of an undertaking.

My husband is going to a screening of The Martian tonight while I'm on kid duty. I'm a wee bit envious, but then, he read the book. He said the book is fantastic.

Of course!

He liked it a lot (well, after it finally started; they had trouble with the projector and it began an hour late, which meant they cancelled the Q&A after, which was a bummer, since Ridley Scott was supposed to be there). He said it's very faithful to the book, in a good way, and that the performances by the ensemble are fantastic. He particularly liked Jessica Chastain, but that may also be because he has a thing for her.

He did say that while the version he and our friend saw was in 3D, he doesn't think 3D is necessary, and actually recommends seeing it in 2D. He said the 3D effect made the outer space segments feel more like a video game than a movie.
